What is the proper wheel lug bolt torque?
I Google and see everything from 80 to 100 ft-lbs.
One tire shop has it 95ft-lb for LX470, and 110 ft-lb for LandCruisers.

I use have a 99, 100 and I use 100lbs and the proper lug nuts on factory Alu wheels.

With out looking at my om, I recall 96ft lbs.

Until tight. Good and tight. The only think I touqre is head bolts.

But in all seriousness, I torque my lugs to 97 ft-lbs

Book is 97ft-lbf (no oil/lube on threads)

Here's one bad thing that happens when rears are over torqued.

Oil deflector becomes warped and gasket eventually falls into drum, yielding a funny sound hard to diagnose.

You have to be a 800lbs gorilla to do that with a tire tool. The average man is not going to do that with a breaker bar.
And I'm not talking about standing on the breaker bar with a pipe extender for more toqure and jumping up and down on it. I am talking about a reasonable person who will have to get these lugs nuts loose again in the future being reasonable on their tightness.
You keep talking about someone using a 1/2" impact wrench on lug nuts for a Land Cruiser. I am not.

I would like to say that at one point I saw someone jump on a tire iron to get the thing tight... he was what I would call a 200lb gorilla

I am at 85 lb-ft with threads bit lubed and been like that for past 8 years.
