What is the torque setting for the valve cover bolts?

Because I just snapped 2 bolts with a $150 torque wrench set at 30 ft-lbs (well below the 53 ft-lbs talked about in this video) replacing the valve cover gaskets with the kit from @cruiserpatch (who's products I've never had problems with so I doubt it's his stuff).

bout to jump in front of a bus...

That's 53 inch pounds, not foot pounds! You're over by a factor of twelve!

ooopha that's rough. Inch pounds, not foot pounds as mentioned by eyedaho above.

Did you manage to extract all of the broken bolts or is there still one in there?

Valve cover bolts on any normal vehicle do not require a lot of torque. In my experience a inch pounds torque wrench isn't necessary but it may not be a bad idea to get one if you are worried about it....small wrench, minimal toque, and just snug it all up in a cross pattern. Worst case scenario you aren't tightend up enough and may see a little oil leaking, then you just snug em up a bit more

It's all good! If you had new bolts you should be able to reuse a couple of the old ones in accessible spots and swap them out when you get replacements. If that's your scenario and you need to get back on the road.
