Ichiban - Japanese for #1.

I bought the first 40, a used '71 in '72 for $650. Several years later I was racing it in club events living the Walter Mitty dream. I had to come up with a catchy name and remembered the Ichiban restaurant in Atlanta so I took the name. The current 40 is technically Ichiban #2 but in Japanese that name makes no sense, according to a Japanese expert I know on the west coast, so it simply became Ichiban!

Only raced for 2 years before I had to close my 4WD store, went to 18 events, took thirteen first place trophies, 2 second place trophies and 1 third place trophy.

Here are two photos of the original 40 in action at an event in Lexington, NC.

Hate I sold the first one. Wish I could find it!

I guess I am strange cause I have always had female names for all my my vehicles dating back to my very first car which was a 1993 Twin Turbo 300zx. Also, the names depend on counties of orgin. As such, my LX is named Keiko which was named by my son Boston.
Nothing strange there. I'd rather be in a female too.

Hmmm I think the only car ive kind of named is Andreas Jetta. Kind of because I always refer to it as the f%$cking vw.

My GX470 is Creampuff. I thought I had a name for the 40, but "the tractor" has kind of made itself at home.

Your son Boston, where was he conceived?

Reminds me of an Ali G interview where he found out that David Beckam's kid was named Brooklyn since that's where he was conceived. "If me and me Julie had a kid, his name would be Langly Village.... Well, his full name would be the bogs at KFC in Langly Village"....

Classic comedy gold:

Damn I actually have all thr Ali G shows on DVD. Havent seen that show in years. Will have to rewatch them sometime.

No Boston was actually conceived here in Raleigh. My wife and I had an agreement. If we had boys she could name them no questions asked and if we had girls I could name them no questions asked. So I had actually nothing to do with the name selection.

At the time we thought we would only have one kid and she knows I would love this little guy more than life itself so Boston seemed natural to her cause she knows my obsession with boston sports. At first I thought the name was strange and was against it, but a deal is a deal. Now I love it. Will be interesting to see if my son still likes it when we move to Maine.

My 40 is named the Chick'n.
when I got it, it was white ( kind of) with black spots spray painted on it.
The Chic-fil-a theme got tossed in there and @CharlestonG8R call it the chicken.
and so it is
My 62 doesn't have a name, I just call it "the 62 "

That is cool David!

Today, I ordered an H55F at the local dealership and the parts guy said he knows my vin# doesn't mean much and called my truck, "Greatest Hits" since it's a mix of Land Cruiser parts.

I thought it was a pretty good name... might let it stick.

Isn't that how you refer to all VWs?

You could call the second one "niban," Japanese for #2. Though "ichiban" sounds better.
