Hey friends! My wife said the sexiest thing to me the other day, "I want a Land Cruiser". Since I was looking to sell the taco and she wants an automatic, I started looking for trades. So, we're headed up to Clarksville to possibly trade for a clean looking 1996 FZJ80 + cash.

Does anybody know first-hand what's involved in trading titles in VA? Based on the VA and NC DMV sites, VA just needs the info on the back of the title filled out properly for the other party to transfer the title to me. NC DMV says:
"For a title transfer, the information on the back of the original title must be completed by both the original owner and the recipient. North Carolina titles must be notarized. For out-of-state titles, NCDMV will recognize that state's requirements."

It sounds easy enough but it's possible (more than likely, even) that I missed something in my research.

And here's what the wife might be driving to the club meeting next week:

its that easy. NC mainly needs the sellers sig notarized. make sure get a signed a bill of sale for your truck and the sellers. incase something happens or gets lost in the mail.

Make a generic bill of sale.
Make sure the he date of the bill of sale is the same as the day that you cancel the insurance.
You will need this to pull your vehicle of your record and it avoids issues with fines. ( proof of insurance between the time you go from one dmv to the other)

If you are going to drive it back into NC from VA, I'd ask the seller to leave their plates on the vehicle. Then mail the plates back to the seller when you get home. This way you can avoid having to go to the NC DMV ahead of time to get a temporary tag.
