The horse has been flattened so I'm not sure if it can be beaten anymore.

I really needed new tires, I was running tires from 2009 the original KOs. I just purchased 5 Falken A/T4W 285/75/16 (33s) for my stock wheels and have them mounted. They feel good. I purchased this size because I was able to price match walmart at $253 a tire so out the door was $1500 for 5 tires installed.

America's Tire is allowing me to change them to 35s (315/75/16) if it's within 30 days and less than 500 miles on the tire. But there isn't price match and each tire would be $82 more for a total of about $500 more with tax.

80s look awesome with 35s. I'm currently stock height but will be doing 2-2.5 lift in about a month. 33s sometimes look funny with a lift and 35s fill out the space well. However, I don't see myself rock crawling but more life offroad trails or heading to the mountains.

Would you change them to 35s and spend another $500 or pocket it and keep the 33s ?

Keep it stock height and keep the 33"s if money is tight.

A stock cruiser on 33s will take you a hell of a lot of places. Way beyond forestry roads.

Save the lift and tyres for later when cash ain't so tight.

My 80 has been rolling on stock suspension and 33s for about 6 years.
I threw 2" lift under it recently, but that was springs I had in the shed for 6 years too.

This is true. I did that for a full year, was impressive. (Geolander M/Ts). Now .. I am between 35s and 37s (prepping for Rubicon)

Me? No lift, no big tires. I wouldn't enjoy removing and installing a 35" tire to do brakes and other stuff. What would be the weight of tire and wheel, about 80 lbs? Not sure this old man could do it anymore without getting a hernia!

Also, my 80 drives like a dream and I wouldn't want to risk fawking that up with a lift.

Besides the extra tire and lift upfront expenditures, I'd expect worse MPG plus more associated wear and tear maintenance costs down the road.

All this trouble for arguably a better appearance? (I would argue it's not better) Meh.

I think an 80 looks perfect with an OME 2" lift and 33's. What it should have come from the factory. Same with the 60 series.

285s at stock height vs 315s 2.5" lift.

The smallest diameter tires which will allow you to safely traverse your intended terrain is the optimal decision.

33's will take you more places than you imagine if you take your time and are ok with dragging some armor. The pic in my avatar is my rig on 33's crossing golden crack in Moab, so forest roads are no problem.

I did step up to 35's on my last tire change. The truck is noticeably slower, brakes worse and wonders more. For me thats a worth while trade off for the extra trail capability but I like to take it rock crawling. I am in the process of building a more dedicated trail rig and when thats done I will probably take the cruiser back to 33's.

First picture is of the truck on 33's, 3" lift and 1" body lift. Second picture is the same but with 35's. Third picture (just for fun) is the 33's with just the 1" body lift. I'll admit on my truck the 35's looks better but I didn't hate the 33's with the lift either. I really liked the 33's with just the body lift (looks wise) and I personally think 33's would look great with a 2" lift.

35s

I have 4.88, delta 3" radius arm, delta panhard bracket, swaybar drop, extended brake lines, 2.5" lift, whiteline rear sway and extended rear bump stop.
If done correctly it rides straight and no vibrations. Fzj80 is already slow and the regear does help but still slow. With slotted brakes, stopping is no issue for me. With the mods above I can go to 37s and add 3" lift, trimming, 105 sector shaft and RCV axles.
35s looks way better than 285.

The OP is (was) concerned about spending a few extra dollars to upgrade tires, I doubt they are going to spend the $10,000 you would have to, in order to make all of those upgrades.
