I'm currently in the market for a roof rack, drawer system, winter tires, window visors and a digital rear/front bumper camera mirror. My question to you guys is, in the course of your builds, which mods did you find out after the fact were excessive or not as useful as you had thought?

Not sure I've had any regrettable items on the 100's I've had. Maybe my Maxtrax? They are bright orange and I've yet to use them. They grab too much attention so I took them off a long while back.

I don't regret it, but I would have preferred an aluminum rear bumper instead of a steel one. I'm an overlander, not a rock crawler. I'm carrying too much weight in the rear.

Similar sentiment, but opposite side of things for me. I'm very glad my rear (and front and skids) is aluminum.

Sell me those Maxtrax, I got the Amazon specials (X-Bull) and I don't like them...their to tall/deep and basically high-profile on top of the tent...

But those are the only "mod" I regret.

I regret not holding out for a different front bumper. And my urethane control arm/steering rack bushings.

Otherwise, I'm relatively happy with everything.
You've got the ARB, right? That's been my plan - we've got so many deer out where I live I sorta want those engineered crumple zones and big bar.

Overlander = aluminum
Wheeler = steel

If somebody is not sure but thinking about harder trails, I'd just go steel because aluminum could be a costly mistake.

The snorkel. It broke and couldn't find another Chinese version that matched the pattern. Found a used same color fender instead.
Would not have matted if it was a brand name snorkel.

Correct. I got it brand new for a crazy deal, so it was hard not to. I'd like to eventually build myself a higher clearance bumper with a full bar still.

Wish they offered this bull bar for the 100 (..and it magically fit the stupid grill hood extension on the LX)

I would even wrap my LX turquoise if Ben would build me one 😂

My Gamiviti rack…

There’s nothing wrong with it, Tim builds a fine product but know now that for my use the OEM rack would be just fine. So if anyone wants to trade their stock LC rack (not LX!) send me a PM.

I'm not rich or dumb enough to trade it straight up for a stock rack so if that's what you're thinking, keep scrolling.

Using stainless brake lines on the front instead of OEM.
Rear lower control arms with Curry Johnny joints.

Yeah but aluminum cracks easily. I’ve re-welded my dissent skid plates numerous times. Makes you wonder what the point is…

If you're cracking skids, then safe to say you'd be bending and fracturing all sorts of undercarriage without them.

Mine haven't been abused too bad, but they've landed on a few rocks, haha. Zero issues to report on mine.

I have the ASFIR full set. I regretted my purchase of then early on but after removing some steel skids from buddies' trucks, I'm content with them. One of their crossmembers is poorly designed and has bent in to my exhaust and drive shaft several times, but it's an easy fix to drive over it to bend it back on the trail. Eventually I may replace that one bar with steel. Other than that one item, they've been just fine functionally.

I’m ok cracking skids but i would never get an aluminum rear bumper. Skids are easy to remove and repair, a bumper is a lot more work. My friend who always wheels with me in his 3gen 4Runner also cracked his aluminum skids in many places. We are super careful, nothing like the stuff @cruiserpatch or his friend in the built 200 do in their videos. I can’t imagine the damage they’re incurring l.

Patch and Lee are definitely testing the limits of durability on the regular, haha.
