Taking a break from my ignition issues to ask a question about fuel lines.

My "75 FJ40" does not have the original engine. (Or Carb :( ) There are 2 fuel hard lines bolted to the chassis rail under my hand. One goes to the fuel filter and on to the fuel pump. The other is in my hand and, up until our recent freeze, was plugged with "some gooey material". Apparently, the freeze caused that plug to fail and I had a leak from this fuel hose. I plugged it with the bolt shown in the photo to stop the leak. My question is, what is this second fuel line for? Should it be plugged? If it drops below the gas tank fuel will flow out of it.

Some fuel pumps have a fuel return line.

How many lines are on your fuel pump?

Somewhere around that year the carb had a return to the tank fuel hose. Bolt and hose clamp makes a fine plug IMHO.
