We have been lurking back and learning, while our build is getting closer to completion. Thank you all for posting up your projects...they have been helpful! That being said, we just got the 285s on with the new wheels and the Trekbox installed. We are hoping to meet up with you guys on some trips soon!

Can’t speak to stock pads since I only had them a few days before installing the TRD but I would guess no. I got about 30k miles and my TRD pads are done. I liked them other than the heavy amount of brake dust they produce.

Anyone else go from TRD to another pad? The TRDs were a big improvement in brake feel and bite but if there are other options with similar performance and a tad less dust I’d be all ears.

My TRD brake pads are doing just fine, but I'll know for sure when I swap to my summer wheels today. I've been giving this some thought and I wonder if I'm getting more life out of my brakes in general because I use the S-Mode a lot while driving. I've spent most of my driving years in manual transmission vehicles, and engine braking helps slow this beast down.

Bravo. :hillbilly:
Downshifting to engine brake with S mode is a huge boon toward saving your brakes for sure.

Every LCDC I smell burning brakes from folks in front of me...who desperately need to stay out of D on the steep, endless declines off-road. -Even (and especially) 70 East into Denver will burn em up without it.

This became especially clear with :5’s and a heavy truck.

If you don't mind me asking, where and how much did you get the wheels powder coated?

Precision Powder Coating in Belmont. Was $450 for the 4 of them. I think there are places in the south bay that'll do it for around $80/wheel.

Ultimately, I am lazy and Precision is down the street from me so went with them.

As they say, it's always something. While doing some cleaning I realized that my tailgate spoiler had cracked. I guess there's an internal seam in its construction, as you don't know it's there until it splits. So I put some tools and products together in an attempt to adhere and seal it back together.

It's not the prettiest since I elected to glue and then still apply some silicone on top. But should be watertight, which is my main concern.

Installed reverse ligthts.
Wrapped the exposed wires in wiring loom.

Only thing left is to install the toyota switches in the switch blanks to the left of the steering wheel but havent been able to find anything on how to do this.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you saying you already ran the wire up to the switch blanks, or asking where best to run the wire?

Few pics of tire fit with no lift 285-70-17 on method 305s ,method says 0/4.75

They rub on the bottom middle of plastic liner , where the little squat plastic thing hangs. And on the middle of rear bottom and side painted body molding on front steps , def had to remove mud flaps on front also .

Front and back pics too please! My future Plasti-Dip options depend on it!!

Did plasti-dip on the emblems and wheels on my other car two years ago. Still looks great.

I understand.
I’m not a fan of flares either, but I’m even less a fan of guys who don’t give a rats petudy what they fling at everyone who has the misfortune of driving behind them.

So...just suggesting flares if you wanna run wheels that will, otherwise, destroy other dude’s windshields with regularity.

I already ran the wire up to the switch back, just dont know how to remove the trim panel underneath the steering wheel so i can install the switch in the switch blanks.

Look on the thread on how to attach the plug for your trailer brakes as that plug is right behind where those switches go.
Also .. plan ahead.. if you have any other switches or plugs going there now is the time to put them in place.

Only flees I found come from over seas .

No offense, but sounds like you got the wrong wheels with all that rubbing on tires that should fit perfect with no rubbing anywhere. Why did you take off the last wheels out of curiosity?

the factory wheels look old and out dated imo. And even if on factory wheels I They would rub with out lift , my lift will be in next week son-not really worried now just wanted to give heads up on people who might try to run them without lift .

The tire shop did mount a 285-70-18 on my factory wheel first just to see the look for me. And it rubbed on front and back plastic . So and the tire price was 350 more so ratered the look of the method wheels and saved few bucks going down to a 17 inch tire .
