Hi Lift on a bull bar? Brave man :)

Is this a bad idea? I'm here to learn, please let me know what kind of problems I can get into with this kind of mount.

How is that secured? Make sure it is SUPER strong, or it could launch itself through someone's back window in a collision.

I'm using the antenna mounts on the bar, with spacers from a Tundra kit. Think this is not such a good idea?

Those look extremely stout to me, though I'd make sure they are the largest, strongest bolts you can fit. I mentioned it before because I couldn't see the mount in the other photo.

Personally I would mount rearward...but if you're going to mount it on the bar, that looks like a strong way to do it.

My 40 had a Hi-lift on the bulbar when I got it. The only issue I ever had was the cotter pint for the base working loose and the base falling off at highway speed. It didn't cause any damage to my Cruiser or anyone behind me...but could have.

Actually I was reluctant to mount it there due to visibility also, but it's not as bad as I thought.

Since I haven't gotten around to getting a real roof rack, and mounting it on top of the stock rack won't clear my garage, and I didn't order a gas can swing out for my rear bumper (cause I was over budget), and mounting behind my rear tire will wind up banging against shelving in my garage if I back in deep enough to close my garage door - I'm kinda stuck doing like this for a bit. I was strongly advised against leaving it inside the rig, even secured, in case of accident or a nasty drop off-road and having it fly around the inside. Didn't think much of it until I thought about my kid going on a ride with me.

I'm thinking of just leaving it off when I'm not going on a trip (which is unfortunately 99% of the time). I hope to hit Hidden Falls Adventure Park this weekend so I'll leave it on through that while I give it a think.

I do much appreciate the input fellas.

Better late than never - Fathers Day weekend consisted of a father/daughter camping trip in the mountains above Boulder. First outting with the new (to me) Land Cruiser. Rented a canoe, headed up Forest Road 68J, and spent the weekend making campfires, fishing for trout, and hiking. The best of times!

Last weekend I got started working on the Land Cruiser! All pretty minor stuff right now but it's as much available time as I have.
  • I got under the Land Cruiser on Sunday and applied Ospho to all spots on the undercarriage where I could see surface rust forming. Being a New York vehicle for 22,000 miles, there obviously was some but it wasn't bad. Oshpo should convert all surface rust to something non-corrosive. This project included removing the KDSS valve body shield and treating the cast iron body.
  • A minor thing, but I removed the plastic bug shield from the hood. I'm glad the PO had it, but looks better without it!
  • Replaced cabin air filter.
Next steps:
  • Apply Fluid Film to the undercarriage for longer-term metal treatment. 3 aerosol cans arrived from Amazon Prime already.
  • The dealer I bought from in NY is shipping the missing TPMS sensors to my house in CO. I will need to have them installed at the same time when I get tires. There are currently no TPMS sensors in the wheels.
  • Tires! 275/70R18 tires will be the most visible change.
  • I'm considering adding OEM strut spacers to level the front and minimize chance of rubbing tires. A little research indicates that @beno has just become a local and I drive by his location every day. I'll hit him up for the parts.

@beno is local and has a store??? Do tell more.

I added pinstripes! Or rather the brush on some of the trails at Hidden Falls Adventure park did.

This is the first time I really got to test this rig out. I took a wrong turn going up to Wildcat mountain and found myself on a scary as hell ATV only trail. It's probably not as bad as I remember it, but at the time it seemed almost 45 degrees of some grey rock with loose rock pieces for about 30 ft. Scared the hell outta me. Not only did I make it down (with a little dent in the ARB skid plate), I made it the hell back up on the first try. This rig has to be great cause I'm very inexperienced.

If you don't get scared sometimes you're not having fun

Cruise Moab always has great prizes. Two years in a row the same guy won CVT Roof Top Tents. So at a great deal I bought his brand new CVT Mt Bacheler Summit Extended series. This is their ruggadized version of that RTT. It barley fit into the Garage, but still did so I can use my RACOR Roof hoist system to take it on and off. First have to sell the TJM RTT I bought from Stan last year and hadnt used it. I have way too much camping gear and don't get to really use it with my schedule. In the picture you can see two RTTs, on the other RACOR Lift you can see a Jet Tent 25 and under it is my Kimberley Karavan. I keep telling myself I am investing in Quality gear so when I retire I can get out more. Besides, the Jet Tent is really for when my daughters and their sig others come with me in my Karavan, it provides a guest room

Beno moved to Netherland recently

Correct. I live in Nederland, CO and have a shared shop space with Robbie in Boulder, CO.

I am not up and running yet as I have a billion things to take care of infrastructurally before I can begin business again and am doing everything by myself. So.....

But quite happy to be in CO indeed.

:)

Had a chance to play with the new RTT. This likely will hang from my garage ceiling until one of those fast moving trips that you shouldnt take even a 4WD trailer on

I can make any adjustments to the front through the sun roof. May need to think about a Gobi Ladder. Can you climb up that without fear of it not supporting your weight? Then again, on those trips I will have two gas cans on a frontrunner carrier and a Pelican trunk on the back

And off the truck. This RTT is a lot heavier. I was able to do it myself but it was harder than the others I had.

I had been thinking about increasing my lift an inch. I had 1.5" of clearance so likely wont be doing that

what does your wife say about your hobbies and the amount of garage space you require? lol
I admire your selection and collection of gear - kudos

I posted this in the picture thread as well.

I just bought a complete set of rock warriors from a member here including spare and trd lug nuts. Drove 10 hrs to get them. What do you guys think? Each wheel/tire combo is only about 7 pounds heavier than the stock LX wheels. I thought the weight penalty would've been way more so I'm happy about that.
