Great post, thanks. The Tacoma folks have this problem along with the 4Runner crowd and Tundra too. When I have time I'll research the steering shaft part #, I won't be surprised if its used across the product line certain years.

This is a common problem with Many vehicle brands. There is a company called borgeson that does nothing but steering. I haven't looked to see if they have one for Toyota, but I used one of there steering shafts in a Dodge Ramcharger and it was really well made and eliminated the rag joint as well as provided additional length via a splined sliding end like a driveshaft.

Looks like they have no native Toy options, but take a good look at their design as I am sure that those so inclined could adapt one of their shafts to our rigs.

Well, no dice. I made more room for the shaft as it was close to the collar. Still getting some slop and predominantly on the drivers side. I have ordered new lower ballpoints, plus the super pro bushings.

Timbrens and pro fenders on all 4 corners en route. Added steering rack bushings and lower ball joints as well. Looking forward to ditching the super firm ome sports. Cruiser feels like it's falling part on each expansion joint.

Sorry Jordan, I was hoping you found the fix. The way you described it made it sound just like mine. Regular road vibrations, especially when the wheel was ever so slightly turned, was when it felt the worst. I had someone turn the wheel slightly while I looked at the shaft under the hood. I could see right where it was touching that body plate.

It was worth a shot at least.

No worries Stan - I learned something from your experience and went ahead and adapted the plate where yours interferes. I don't think I did it as elegantly as I could not fit a dremel in there; I simply took a crow bar and hammered the lip down.

I specifically feel this under my feet on the ds. I pulled all skid plating off and jacked up the front - I didn't feel movement at 12 and 6, but am replacing ball joints anyway. I did feel at 9 and 3, so maybe super pro bushings will help that before I have to change out the rack.

I just laid down some $$$ for the OME suspension kit(springs, shocks, bars) I'm anxious to see what the impact will be when I do the install..

Changed transfer case fluid today. Pretty easy project.

Then I suctioned out the power steering reservoir and poured in new fluid. I figure if I do this a few times it wi be same as changing the power steering fluid.

Next up, change tranny fluid.

Time will tell. I've only driven on them to and from the alignment shop where the "technician" after making me wait 2 hours, returned the truck to me still out of spec according to his printout. When I complained and refused to pay, he told me caster adjustment within spec was not just impossible, but unnecessary. Hmmmm.

Upon further inspection of the results, he was using specs from a 200 series. Pathetic. I'll head to another shop next week, but a my numbers (both before and after the "alignment" this guy did) look pretty close to the 100 series specs.

Cleaned TB and MAF as well as changed two coil packs (3 & 8).

Also finally settled on location and installed winch solenoid under the hood. This was a big deal because it took me way too long to settle on a location.

90k, second time around --

Timing Belt, tensioner/idler, Starter, Water Pump, Crank seal (leaking), Spark plugs. 185k on a set of plugs, this iridium is good stuff .

Would have finished today, but needs a new serpentine belt tensioner -- spins like a cheap skateboard wheel.

Pulled the hood off, made it super easy to pull the starter bolts, and gave plenty of room to work, as well as more light.

I picked up a new (to me) 2000 a couple weeks ago down in Southern California after selling my 80-series about a month ago . Truck checked out great (in fact the mechanic called me back after the PO left and told me to get him money and buy this truck right away because it was so clean... hard to say no to that!). Picked up some temporary tires from Newps (thanks man!) to get me back to Utah...

Last weekend I pulled the mommy-steps, did a bunch of small shtuff and ordered up a PFRAN interior light kit. But this weekend I finally got new shoes on her.. BFG AT's in 285 75 16E. Already looks and drives more like a truck... lift and front bumper are next on the agenda..

I replaced the horn relay on my LX with a new one from C-Dan hoping that it would fix my horn not working problem. I got lucky and it did.

Hopefully I can get the rest of the goodies that Santa Dan sent installed this weekend. (New rear sway bar bushings and end links along with the passengers side, sway bar to frame bracket that I broke wheeling two weeks ago.)

I also have some ARB trim packers from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters for the rear springs that I am going to install at the same time. 10 mm for the passengers side and 15 for the drivers side. ( once I add the passengers side rear swingout and spare I expect to bump that side to 15 mm as well.
