I thought when I replaced mine 2 years ago that it was the original, but after talking to my brother in law that had it before me, turns out he replaced it only a few years before that. Mine failed somewhere in the passenger side where the radiator part crimps to the outside. Just a slow drip. My current one has 2 years and so far so good. Here’s to hoping it lasts a longer time than the last one.
I replaced my original in January 2023 with an OEM, which developed a hairline crack and very small leak. I replaced it with another OEM…hoping it does better.

Making me worried about the new OEM rad I have en route from Serra Toyota! Out of curiosity where did yours fail?
Mine arrived from Serra with a few battle scars and a questionable ding in rom of the tubes. I was replacing a fairly young Mishimoto rad that was already leaking so I had no choice but to install the Serra OEM unit. I much prefer the OEM fitment over the Mishi so hopefully it has a long life.

I don't want to think about this - just replaced with OEM a few months ago.

Over the past few weeks, I've done a few things to make my LX nicer to drive. The interior is starting to feel pretty dialed in!

- BT45-TOY Bluetooth module install
- Proclip mount + adhesive Scosche Magic Mount magnetic holder (the one drilled for a Proclip sticks out too far and hits the wiper stalk)
- @LJE Scangauge II steering column mount purchased from @MongooseGA
- @LJE overhead DVD trim replacement; emergency blanket pictured but I plan to replace this with a mini FAK.
- Transfer case shifter extension from @cruiserpatch
Snip, snip

Where did you find the BT45-TOY ? I can't find one anywhere.

It’s been a lot with mine lately, but I’ve been chipping away at stuff that’s needed doing for a while. I won’t say it’s almost there because who knows, but maybe for a little bit I can avoid major problems.

Over the last several weeks:

Replaced a banana-shaped rear lower arm. Have the other three back there ready to go when I decide it’s time. Soon.

Finally mounted up the front couple of my asfir skids… only to find that the second one’s mounting bracket interferes with my slider u bolts. So I’ll have to fab around that a little bit- it’s ok for now just mounted over top but it’s not “right.” So that’s a correction.

Big shop trip for a steering rack/ urethane rack bearings replacement, lower front shock bushings, all four brakes/ hubs/ rotors/ wheel bearings. This one was intended to just be the steering rack but I’d been messing around with brakes a while and not finished so “hell while it’s here…”

Spent a bunch of time last weekend fixing serpentine belt stuff, but need to get back in it. I got the fan clutch done and the idler pulley replaced (idler pulley was completely hosed- no bearings left just the races), but ran out of time for the new tensioner and fan bracket assembly. Noticed one random upper coolant hose leak that doesn’t leak unless you crank on the hose, but I’ll get that while I’m in there.

Considering going in with a new radiator/ thermostat/ main hoses while it’s all open too. It’s time and there’s a little slow/ intermittent leak at the lower hose connection anyway. It is a (literal) PAIN to bend over the bull bar to get to all this crap, my ribs were bruised for days.

Anyway- that’s the latest news on a well-loved but also used pretty hard 1999 Lx470.

Got it a year ago and just didn’t get around to installing it until recently, sorry. There’s a cheaper alternative I’ve heard OK things about but can’t personally vouch for (Yatour) and Grom also makes a similar product to the BT45-TOY.

Get a topside creeper—little bit of pain in the wallet up front, but you can be in the engine bay for days without issue. Sucks to store it out of the way though.

I've been working on this for a while and she's finally back from the lads doing the welding. I have posted a few updates as i've gone, but now im done im just popping it all in one post for my own sanity. As always, i cannot thank everyone who has posted on the encyclopedia of a website enough, the information in here has made this project significantly less painful.

She's had Inner, middle and outer Sills, new dog legs both sides and the rear quarter panels have been sorted. already this year I've done a Pedders 2 inch lift and AHC delete with all the lines and pump removed, all new brakes, discs pads, calipers and lines, replacement baking plates for the front discs, so wheel bearings out and repacked, handbrake set up correctly and all the springs and pins on the shoes replaced. Stripped and sorted the CDL and had all the back end arms and rods off for a refresh. I've removed the rust that plagues us here and under sealed the old girl, and she has got through her MOT inspection her with a reputable garage with a clean bill of health.

After a shake down run out today, all is well apart from a squeal from the accessory belt on start up, so that's in the post for a replacement, but after a 2.5 year rest we are back on the road again 😄

I still hate the arches, but that's for when I've financially recovered from this round.

Doing little things to our new-to-us JDM UZJ.
-new spark plugs (some originals were frighteningly loose
-cleaned MAF and TB
-New genuine liftgate struts
-new lift gate window washer nozzle—I had squirted a couple feet of slime out of the tubing already but couldn’t get the original nozzle unclogged to save my life
-new genuine speaker in drivers door. I thought the old one was blown but the new one sounds terrible too—maybe they come blown from the factory 😂. Time to call Crutchfield and ask about 4 ohm options….

That's awesome! Did you embroider the patches yourself?
Got them off e-bay.

Shaved some of the carpet away with some hair clippers so the patch was recessed about 1/8 in and affixed the patches with high strength spray adhesive.

Buddy of mine bought one a few months ago and I *was* guilty of going “cmon really?” I get it now. 😂

This has been on my list for a while. How was it swapping them? Did you have to remove the interior door panels?

Couldn’t have been easier. Could even do the rear windows in someone else locked car in a parking lot. Nice tutorial here

So naw, no need to remove door cards. Lowering the windows makes it a lil easier. I didn’t even loosen the side view mirrors like on the fronts like he did. You can just pull it right out and wedge it back in easily.

Awesome. I need something easy to do for a change, I'm gonna tackle these as soon as the parts arrive. Thank you!
