So I’ve been driving around on new LBJs, repacked front bearings, and new drive flanges for a couple days now … and wow what a change - after years of ownership, you forget what it used to be like …

We’ve owned the LC for 15 years and have put over 275k miles on it since we got it … Currently 417k miles on the odometer and you just about can’t tell it nearly went to the moon and back …

Honestly anyone who is picking up a 100 now, do drive flange and LBJs first before anything else … it’ll feel brand new again

❤️

Got my first order from Partsouq today. 6 days from Dubai to Michigan, insane. New drive flanges and cone washers for my 300k front end refresh. Planning to crank the torsion bars to accommodate the Nolathane 30mm coil spacers and the 10k winch.
Now to find time to complete the work… 299,768 and counting!

Symptoms:
Had a customer bring his truck to me after his battery was replaced on his 2003 LX470. The steering wheel was cocked to the right about 15-20 degrees with VGRS, VSC/VSC OFF lights steadily illuminated.

Tech stream revealed codes C1289 VGRS system malfunction and C1531 ECU malfunction.

Solution:
  • STEP 3 Actuator Angle Initiation as found on SR-56 (see this thread)
  • Made an SST 09843-18040 out of two old 98-99 LX470 OEM locker connector blank grounding wires. Nerdy, I know...
  • Used tech stream to unlock and adjust the VGRS steering angle
While I was in there I also checked the infamous recall snap ring and found that it had been replaced. Good for my customer 🍻

My local Lexus dealership charged him $200 to bring him a $4,000+ quote "to replace the VSRG ECU." I've seen multiple dealers suggest replacing the VGRS computer which would actually fix the problem if they followed the book after swapping it out- the sad part is that all they have to do is read the book...but no one reads anymore- especially not me.

Would anyone buy 09843-18040 if I imported them? Would cost between $20-$30

For $20/$30 I would.

I’ll be driving out to Colorado in June so I spent a little time getting the 100 ready.

Swapped out the tactile switch buttons for the rear air and defrosters, it’s nice to be able to control those again. Also put in a new fan clutch, serpentine belt, 4 new KO3s (stuck with 275/70 despite being tempted to go 285/70), and 5 new TPMS sensors.

Need to do a few other small things but it’s pretty much ready to go.

I love that black with the trim, subtle but very nice factory option. Also stock rims are just :chefs kiss:

I wonder how much better the k03 will be vs the k02.

It's definitely not fair to compare the 7 year old KO2s with 50,000 miles to the new KO3s, but I can tell you I'm really happy with the low noise and ride quality on my drive home from Discount Tire. I was on the fence between the KO2, KO3, and AT4W, time will tell if I made the right decision.
