I am looking to do this as well I've hit them with some rubbing compound and a porter cable buffer - did you sand paper them?

I actually used this ceramic coat kit which worked a dream. Has a chemical oxidation remover and two levels of hand sanding included as well as the ceramic coat.

I finally put all the interior together after having it all stripped down for rust repair and sound insulation. Drove it for a little bit after everything was put together and noticed almost no improvement in interior noise despite covering the whole floor and rear wheel wells with butyl backed sound deadener and a layer of closed cell foam :flush:

I also put 1" thick heat insulator pad in both passenger and driver footwells which stopped the feet area from getting unbearably hot (I read 160 F on bare floor before!)

Next step is the open the doors one by one and start installing noise deadener.

Engine work statt


Engine work started !

Engine is in the CNC shop for boring and the head will get a port and polish as well.

Upgrades:

+100mm bore ROZE Pistons

Custom grind camshafts (I told them I want maxmimum power and torque earlier 3000-5000 RPM)

Upgraded valves , valve springs + retainers

MOTEC M150 With full wire loom

Update:

Engine build complete !

Just need to install the custom wire loom for the MOTEC ECU and then 800 mile break in. After the break in I will be taking it back to the garage for a dyno and tune.

Replaced the perfectly good steering wheel with a slightly less perfect one - because we must blindly upgrade everything to wood.

One of your earlier posts had me somewhat motivated to try the aftermarket sound deadening in our old LX...

This post leaves me significantly less motivated...

hey man, u still got the old ones? what's the dimensions of the 2 on the right. Just wondering I'm going to properly measure my insert soon and see if those standard ones fit.

I have a new set in the box for a 1999 lx470, when it lets up raining I will get the measurements for ya
 
To be fair - Before the sound deadening my Sound Meter app on Samsung Galaxy Note 10 was measuring around 70 dB cruising at 60 mph and now the same phone and app is registering about 65 dB under the same conditions. So as you can see from this totally unscientific test that there is some measurable improvement, it just that it doesn't have the day and night difference I was expecting.
The other unhelpful thing that happened during this process is that I bought a newish BMW X5 which makes the LX sound and drive like a tractor in comparison :meh:

The wood wheel is nice. I love how it feels.

Bummer about the sound deadening :(

5dB should be a significant improvement.

I guess the good news is, that after having owned more than a few 1980s-2000s BMWs, I know that I’m not buying a newish X5. I love how BMWs drive, but I’ll never pay those maintenance costs ever again.

After having one or more “tractors” in the driveway over the last ~26 years, I guess I’ve learned to like
luxury tractors.:)

Finally got around to replacing them, went with the full assemblies instead of just the bushings.
THIS WAS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN REGARDS TO THE DREADED DRIVE LINE CLUNK.
Mileage 166,000.
At the same time, my ac compressor gave up the ghost.
Expensive week, but driving without the clunk, provides an almost Zen like quality, after 5 years of on and off chasing.

Holy chit; more rig prep to drive from OR to FL day after next. Then prep to drive FL to OR in a month or two. No trailer or dogs this time, but sheesh!

Completely replaced the the two support bushings(entire assembly) bottom two boxes. My tech did something with the front bushing without removing the cover. Honestly not sure what he did with the front, but I could ask.
One of them was completely shot, the other was in pretty rough shape. It did not seem to challenging to replace the whole assembly (easy for me to say, as the Lexus Master Certified tech takes care of these things in minutes that would take me days........)
If your truck has the clunk(seems like most do) and similar mileage, or age, make sure to check them.

I work at a Lexus dealership, I just order everything through my parts department. Never tried them, but I hear good things.
My car addiction is heavily supported by working at a place with great mechanics that are willing to help. I am blown away at how many of you guys on this forum can do these jobs in a driveway.

When you say clunk, you mean clunking over bumps? or just generally less clunking going down the road? Do you mean a knocking noise?

I did one bushing, and I definetly know I have 2 more to go.

I have similar rust issue, what product did you use for the repair? Looks good!
