Is the climate system different on the 105? For the 100 LC (mine is 2003) that don't have cabin filters, it's a fairly simple mod to replace the cover to include the filter door. Then the standard LX cabin filters (which can be purchased on Amazon) can be used.
Got the filter door on the 105, just the dimensions of the hole/insert, inserted filter (which doesn't exist) is completely different to the LX.

AFAIK, they were made without a filter. I could take better photos, perhaps video, curious to know what I mean? Or have an understanding of it already?

I have looked online here in Australia, there are even websites that yield filters when you search the FZJ105R , but they do not look like they are the correct dimensions. I have not got to a point where I've purchased anything, basically because of this. It would be a cutout, messy DIY job. Surely there is another cars filter that could work better. Probably need to actually measure precise dimensions = width ,depth and lengths.

Oh. My 100 LC didn't come with filters or have the filter door but the rest of the compartment is the same as an LX. I ordered a new cover and door to install which then allows me to install standard LX filters. The door is fairly small and the compartment requires 2 filters which are stacked. I didn't know that the 105 was different.

Yeah, I watched a video on it a while ago which shows those 2 huge filters being dropped in. The length of them was quite large. So I went and removed my glove compartment, popped out the filter door and checked inside. Low and behold the actual depth of it is nearly halved in my 105. The width looks like it could possible hold 2 filters, but obviously the length of the standard filter that drops in would need to be halved. This is why you see that hatchet DIY job done of cutting the standard filters in half, then people complaining of the air following the path of least resistance and going around the filter and escaping. Not sure what the solution will be, when I have time I will look into it :meh:

I’ve had my 2000 cruiser for 12 years and done most maintenance myself. Recently added a 2006 lx470 and did an oil change this morning for the first time. Did everything the same as I’ve always done on the Toyota, but the LX now has a dash full of lights staring at me. What did I miss? To be honest, I did no research to see if this would be different. I used 5w30, OEM Toyota filter, correct amount.

Did you pull any CEL codes? Highly doubt this has anything to do with you changing the oil. Probably had an existing problem before you bought it

I haven’t done that yet, but everything was fine, then I changed the oil and saw this when I cranked it up to back off the ramps.

Installed new Trail Gear front bump stops. Haven’t had a chance to trail test these yet.

Front bearing repack and inspection on driver side. Replaced a flange stud and chased threads, was put back in by some prior mechanic that didn't want to bother. Took a lot of persuasion to get it out. Lock washer didn't have the tab to keep it from rotating as I tried to loosen the locking nut. Some scoring on inner claw washer, but overall in excellent shape. Disassembled, cleaned, replaced parts, greased and buttoned up. Made a spindle greaser found on Mud with a 1" cap and zerk. Hardest part - too much grease and I couldn't pull the axle out far enough to put the snap ring back on! But remembered some tips I'd read, and got it done. New Toyota stud, claw washer, lock washer, cone washer/flat washer/nuts, dust cap. Will do passenger side soon.

Replaced my lower ball joints, they had a good amount of slop. This paired with my new shock bushings has made a huge difference in steering feel. No more vibration @ 45-65mph either.

Removing the old ones is easy. First remove the spindle.

The old ball joints were easily removed with a couple blows of a hammer. I used the special tool to install the new ones. It did not take much force to remove or install them.

Also painted my LCAs and the ball joint since I heard they get surface rust easily.

The tool I bought off Amazon didn't quite have everything I needed so I used a pry bar as a shim. I used a wrong combination of stuff on one side and ended up tearing the boot on one of the new ball joints

**** it... I'll let it ride and see how long it lasts.

Sanded and touched up the drawers from summer travel wear and tear.

Cleaned up my oxidized headlights with a ceramic coat kit and replaced my cracked corners. Not super happy with the knockoff corners, the plastic is a bit too clear rather than having a slight tint. Fine for now, but I’ll probably replace with OEM at some point.

also lifted my buddy’s new Xterra.

What did I do with my 100 Series this week? I bought it on Wednesday, disassembled the custom platform and reinstalled the rear seats & belts (including moving the ARB drawers back a couple of inches), removed a couple of stickers from the previous owner, and replaced the hood struts. Planning my first outing for next week.
