The trail is called Nimblewill Gap OHV Road and it’s near Dawsonville. It was my first time doing anything remotely like off-roading so I had a good time. There wasn’t anything too challenging. One small section of big rocks where I scraped a little bit but no damage. I didn’t want to get into anything too rough because I don’t have anything for recovery right now.
Nice! Thanks!

It's easy when there's no front drive shaft in the truck.
My family has a Deuce and a Half and that’s how we disable front wheel drive if wanted (on road trips to buy stuff, ice cream runs, etc.) Easy peasy on those old military trucks as you don’t need jacks to sit totally upright underneath.

Refreshed the cooling system this weekend. New Denso radiador, OEM thermostat and gasket, new HPS silicone hoses and I cleaned the AC condenser and trans cooler fins with coil cleaner. Topped everything of with Zerex Asian and a nifty little temp gauge radiator cap.

* Edit:

I've gotten several requests for a parts list so, here's what I used -

DENSO RADIATOR (221-3152)
TOYOTA THERMOSTAT, 90916-03100
TOYOTA THERMOSTAT GASKET, 16346-50010
SILICONE RADIATOR HOSE KIT, HPS 57-1522
SAFE THERMO RADIATOR CAP, T148
AISIN COOLING FAN CLUTCH, FCT-021
ZEREX ASIAN RED

Hope that helps.

We brought it home.
Thanks (?) to leaving myself with a bunch of trucks around and not one of them truly ready to take my youngest daughter off to college this week (at awesome NMU in Michigan's Upper Peninsula) I made a move to fly to Houston to pick up this beautiful '99 from a MUD member (again, the double win of an honest deal and a new friend) and drive straight home. 27 hours later I rolled in and couldn't be happier with it. I had some quick mods in mind and got most of it done today (especially a roof rack because I NEED a decent model for the 100 rack as my old 100 is so crusty) A few more small things before we take her up to school later this week. Sooooo happy. If you can't love a 100 series, you can't love.

About to order a new radiator and need those hoses too! Good timing. Do you have the part#s and where you got them?

Prepping for a 2100 mile trip to Madison, WI pulling a U-Haul trailer. Today I replaced the radiator, hoses, fan bracket, belt tensioner, idler, belt, fan clutch. Took about 6 hours of work from beginning to end. Not a difficult job, just time consuming. Except for the lower bolt on the AC compressor. That one is a B#!&H! Only way I could find to get it was a really long extension with a swivel going next to the tie rod from the wheel well. The block drain on the right side is pretty tough too. Refilled the system with Toyota red long life coolant. All parts were OEM Toyota from Camelback. The bearings in the tensioner and fan bracket had play and rough turning.

I also found a pop rivet on the fender while under the hood. I'm thinking the replacement windshield a few months ago was actually done correctly!

On to re-foaming the front speakers in the morning.

Chris

Welcome to the Madtown. Best of luck on your drive and look me up if you want to meet another cruiser head

Actually, just helping my son move out there. We'll head back to Northern California a few days later (with the Land Cruiser - don't want to expose it to salty roads :)). We've been there many times and have good friends in Waunakee. I went to med school in Milwaukee.

Costco has a $10 off for 6 quarts - $29 (after rebate). Good deal?

I usually pick up the 5qt Mobil at Walmart when it's $22, and the Mobil $12 rebate is available (which is good for 2 5qt jugs). So maybe $10 per jug after the rebate. They usually run the rebate twice a year, and Walmart usually drops the price each time.

Not too much done TO it, but did finally wire in signal lights, wired in ARB IPF lights into the factory fog lights and mounted them on the bumper. Got them off ebay with no mounts, ended up bending some U shaped brackets myself. Still debating whether to spend the ridiculous amount of $ to get a arb fog light housing plastic and cut into this bumper but that sounds less than ideal but itd be nice to have the fog lights lower and put bigger spot/headlights in its place. Also put two pairs of quick fists mounted with conduit hangers on the roof rack to hold shovel and axe up outside the car. Pretty sturdy nothing even budges while moving.

Took the 100 down to Asheville NC for 4 days with the family plus picked up sister in law and her husband from the airport and they camped with us along the Swannanoa river. So 4 adults, 2 kids in car seats...it was very full and very heavy. No trails really more just sight seeing. I must have seen a dozen 100's, FJs, and 80's, they were everywhere there. About 1,200 miles in one weekend so another milestone crossed on the way to 500K club. On the way up one of the passes on I40 or I26 I cant remember, my fan suddenly got louder and the car just had a more "airy" jet like sound to it. Apparently my fan clutch is going out. With the car cold I could barely move it, so I'll be replacing it tonight and filling it with some 30,000 CST per ACCToyotas advice on another thread.

I solved a mystery, have had the dreaded front end clunk for the last several months, have been under the rig several times prying on bushings and trying to find the source. This weekend I removed the skid plates and low and behold found the culprit. The 2 vertical bushings holding the front diff were it, well the rubber spacers on top of the bushings anyway. The one in the front was mangled and hanging out and the one on the back side of the diff was not even there. Ordered new ones from febest, recommendation from other thread I had read up on and installed today. Surprisingly the main bushings were in great shape so I left them and torqued down to 137 ft/lbs.

Also came up with a mount for my trail radio using an old cell phone holder and a block of wood shoved into the tape deck. With a magnetic holder for the mike.
