Toyota did not use 1/8 NPT on the 22R engine!
BSPT threads.JPG

Toyota used 1/8 BSPT. 1/8 NPT is not compatible with 1/8 BSPT. I had to build an adaptor to get my 1/8 NPT oil pressure gage to fit the 22r engine. Included are a few of the engine components utilizing 1/8 BSPT. I hope this alleviates someone's frustration.

You can also purchase those adapters. I've used several "metric" to NPT adapters over the years.

Do not use a degreaser containing lye or other metal hydroxide on aluminum!

These ingredients will eat/react with your nice aluminum parts. UGLY! These wheels were purchased this way. Good deal on the Dunlop tires though.

I wonder if that is a common product- I got a similarly corroded set of rims cheap for rollers

Torn inner boot on the Tacoma passenger CV, popped in a oreilly replacement in about 90 minutes, getting the reboot kit for the OEM shaft for a trail spare.

oh, NOW the fun begins! I'd save the Oreilly CV as the trail spare :). Is the other side not too far behind?

Shoot, I have had better luck with my $12 Amazon "warehouse deals" cvs for my 100 series than I have with the oem from Toyota.

Yep, the boot is checking at the outer rib of the inner boot. Ordered two oem boot kits today, it's gonna be a greasy grimy rebooting process. The tacoma world folks have a procedure to to implement on the shaft that is claimed to help them last a lot longer.

This is a very messy job indeed. This is also a great time to set aside the tools for this job out in the bush and keep those tools in the spare box with the spare CV. i know that some folks use a 'rope' tool for shaft extraction out of the diff, while others use two pry bars. I've always used two pry bars but the rope tool is elegant.

Sorry guys - I've been absent for a while. Life's just been taking me for a ride since January. Got divorced in February. Refinanced the house, got to keep my cars and Gaius. Things are good, though. Since March I've been to Chicago, Washington DC, Michigan, and just got back from NYC for the first time last weekend. Starting a new job at Los Alamos next week too.

Been spending nights working on this 2001 Celica I got a while back for $800. Pulled the engine last week to do a lot of work on it. Here I am welding a nut to the last transmission bolt that rounded off. I'm pretty much replacing every wear part on it. It has decent compression and runs and idles okay.

Right after this shot some slag fell down and caught the moving blanket on fire, but I was able to get it out before anything serious happened. Good times. Hope to see you all soon.

spent yesterday tracking down the new C rated 285/75r16 K03s. discount tire didn't think they existed at first and I was starting to think it was a typo but they got them ordered for me. C rated is 10 pounds lighter than the E rated version according to tire rack! View attachment 3967822
I'm curious to see what they look like, size wise.

My uncle offered me Granpa's truck and my wife wanted it so I got a new project.

My grandpa bought this new on November 5, 1969.

Got it home, put a battery in it, dumped a little fuel down the carb and she fired right up.
