Readjusted my valves. 50 more horsepower! 30 MPG! For real it seams to be running better, like enough that I think maybe I fixed a vacuum leak I didn't quite know I had in the process. They seemed all a bit tight, across the board. Prev adjust was cold, when I put the head back on.

Spent five hours working on the oil pan gasket today. What a royal pain in the neck. (Literally) New gasket thickness makes it tough to get the bolts threaded. Managed to get longer bolts in to hold it in place but still unable to get it close enough to thread the pan bolts. The front and rear seals are causing the headache. One piece gasket. No troubles lining up the gasket, just can't get the front or rear close enough to get a pan bolt started.

First attempt was with the gasket tied to the pan. But that was impossible for me. Next, tied the gasket to the block and installed the pan. That helped a lot, but still a struggle. Will try to give it a go again tomorrow. Do I need to put a jack under the pan and try to press it on that way?

I have done about 8 of them so far. The best way I have figured out is that I coat the gasket with FIPG or your favorite rtv especially around the front and main journals and the corners. It helps keep the gasket from moving and helps seal around the ends. Its a pita but i push hard with one hand and start putting bolts in with the other starting in the middle on both sides. Then work my way around. Dont start on the ends. Once i get the bolts in I let it sit for a few hours or over night to let the FIPG to set up then I tq them down to the 17 inch pounds. I haven't had one leak yet using this method.

You turn the engine over or the whole damn truck? :flipoff2:

You did not take the opportunity to get your header ceramic coated while it was off?

...and delay this project even longer?
