Rubicon time!

Already bought it back and sold it to a buddy. Ordered a new rubicon hardrock edition. 6 speed again, and probably going to run the same formula of 2.5 lift and 35s. 4:1 and locking diffs will be a nice change.

Damn Jim, sorry bout that. Hope it all works out for ya in the end.

Glad it turned out to be an upgrade opportunity!

Well after putting a new carb, new fuel lines, new fuel pump, new hub assemblies, new wheel studs, new driveshaft bolts, new shackles, new shock bushings, fixing the vacuum shift t case, finishing the power steering and essentially rebuilding the rear end....I finally got to put some miles on my "turn key" fj40. Drove to Columbia last night. Truck did great and tracks better than my tj did on the interstate.. 70ish is a comfortable cruising speed for it. The only thing I really need to had is some sort of hand throttle to use as cruise control.

Jimbo, what year is that? It looks nice. I see a 78 in your signature line but that's not it.

Also, that's First Citizens Bank in the background of your first pic (I believe). All the drama, I mean excitement, was going on around the other side of the building!

This one is a 71. Yeah, there was some protesting at the state house...1 fat white guy......

Developed a real bad vibration from the front end on the way home from the beach this weekend. Also, some banging on turns. I think something is broken in my axle, but I don't have time to pull it apart this week. I'm going to pull the front DS tonight and see if that helps at all.

If not, I may be dropping it off to you Marshall @Trollhole . I have a feeling it's the pinion bearing, or the third member itself. I need to put new seals in anyway, so...no fun.

Clemsoncruiser, how long did the trip take?

13 days of trail time, but those were long days and a few days we had to ditch some of planned dirt route in favor of pavement to make our planned camp for the evening before dark. Doing in 16-17 days would make it a more enjoyable experience.

Gotcha. A buddy and I are planning on road tripping out west in October. Have 10 days so figure we will go to Telluride and Moab.

Swapped my dead OEM alternator for a new DC Power 180A alternator. Replaced the serp belt while I was at it.

I would have replaced it too! It's so worn it is starting to look like a key lanyard! Geez, lucky it didn't leave you stranded!

Got a little carried away with a desmog..

While attempting to install the EGR blockoff plate, unsurprisingly one of the studs sheared off during removal.

So now the whole exhaust manifold is coming out. But I got stuck on the two 14mm bolts that hold the intake and exhaust manifolds together.

Sounds like a good excuse to pick up an impact driver tomorrow.
