Moved a few big rocks using my newly installed modded ARB bumper. I let my daughter work the winch control.

Option A was to remove the exhaust manifold or Option B to remove the valve cover. Well, the valve cover looked like crap and had some peeling paint. Plus I was PRETTY CONFIDENT (HA!!) that the valve cover was leaking. So I pulled the valve cover. And this is what I found. I have no idea if this is how it is supposed to look. All six cylinders look the same to my untrained eye. Nothing super clean. Nothing super gunky. I don't think this rubber gasket is supposed to have a slit in it. So I need to order a new one and wait for it. Which gives me time to clean the cover and sand it to paint it. Could use a little HP gain.
Let me know if you see anything alarming.

@NLXTACY what color red did you use for your valve cover?

Should I clean this out? Or don't bother.

My ih8mud!! photo. Got stuck in some nice wet clay ruts for 20 minutes or so. Soupy mess and the diffs were hung up on the center between the ruts. Locking diffs don't help when the pumpkin is dragging. Very deceiving as there was a 2" dry crust on top. Had to dig a diff trench for ten feet so I can finally back up.

Stupid question:

Vatozone can have a Felpro Perma Dry rubber valve cover gasket tomorrow. I know I should wait until I can get an OEM one. But that will be Wednesday before I can get it. Is it worth the risk? Am I just being silly and should wait for the OEM one?

I seriously don't GAS what valve cover gasket I use. It is such a high tolerance item, I just use whatever is available, regardless of the vehicle.

Finished up some details on the front end. Oddly enough, it now has an FJ Cruiser-esque feel to it. I wasn't intentionally aiming at that; I was just trying to fix a really ugly front end.

This vehicle has had a left front end hit and they didn't replace anything They just tried to get everything to work and glue together, so all of the fixtures are cobbled. Both side markers literally flapped in the breeze until I dreamed up this fix using some 1/4" fuel line. ToolsRUs had the left side fixed pretty good, but it was a bear to remove and remount.

I'm going to go with it. I figure it has to be better than the original 23 year old gasket that is in there and has been leaking for 10 years. It gives me the ability to put her all back together tomorrow which is my goal.

Drove the LC to see Shamoo.

Not gonna lie, I poured a little beer on the curb thinking of painting over this...I'm guessing original markings from when my 3FE was built in the factory. It's on the backside of the cover by the firewall.
