Arizona Loop

The missus and I took RedCruiser up the 288 from Lake Roosevelt northwest of Globe, AZ on Monday and returned today (Wed). The road is called the Desert to the Tall Pines Hwy but it's only paved part way. No particular challenge for RedCruiser but breathtaking scenery nonetheless. Sorry, no pics of that leg of the trip.

We stayed in a friend's cabin and while there took Black Canyon Rd south through more beautiful pine-covered mountain lands. Many side trails lead to semi-challenging conditions. Took several. Made our way down to Black Canyon Lake and around back to the 260 to Heber area and the cabin.

Next day sauntered over to Show Low for lunch and then completed the loop by taking the 77 down through the Fort Apache Indian Reservation back to Globe and home to Gilbert. Great trip. Lots of miles. Moderate and very fun 'wheeling. Went alone so didn't want to stress RedCruiser too much.

As it was my Mickey Mouse battery hold-down contraption let loose on the trail and a wire from the positive post to some electrical doohickey let go. Took me a few minutes to figure out why the engine just up and died on the trail. Once I found it, convinced the battery to go back where it belonged, twisted the torn wires back together, and applied a bunch of heavy tie wraps to the bat, all was well. Gotta fix that bat box.

Enjoy the pix. They're a teeny bit large so may take a couple secs to appear.

Best Always,

Michael

JackZilla, where did you buy your rebuild kit?

NLXTACY what tires are you running? I'm finding my Falkens rougher than I like and looking for a dift all round tire that will do roads like you were on.

I put my new TRD decals on my rig. Bought the decals from Crawlorado. 25 bucks not to bad.

My brother is in from out of town-No. Dak. He and I ran Hewitt Canyon Rd. He hasn't done anything like that coming from the plains, except just passing through the Badlands (amazing area itself).

I put on some new to me, non rusty split rims... And had the wheels balanced. Now my alignment needs doing... Next job already!
Also traced a leak in the rear quarter.

Sealed my rear sliding windows from leaking anymore... Rust proofing underside .... Topped off birf grease ... Some touch up paint

VTrocker, you are truly hardcore! I dig it!

@ vt, now that's commitment!

Made a father's day run up to the Naches area with my brother in his Rubicon. We got all turned around, ended up on a buggy rated trail and I exited with a couple of stoved-in rear quarter panels, a crushed bumper corner, and a broken tail light. (Pics to follow tomorrow)

On the plus side, I got to break in my new harbor freight winch (worked flawlessly), and demonstrated repeatedly that Mike Smith over at Bumpit Offroad knows how to weld armor together.

Wifey was with me and was extremely cool about me whacking her daily driver into several trees and stumps, and generally mangling an otherwise clean 80.

We still had a great time though!

Corbet, I love those trails. We've done 7 or 8 of the most famous: Imogine, Black Bear, Engineer, etc. Wish I could get over your way more often. Thanks for the pix. Brings back fond memories.

BTW, which trail is that you're on in the pix?
