Interesting, I have put Nitro gears in 3 trucks now as well as there install kits and no issues at all. My old truck has 80k on them and the new owner has not had issues yet.

where the bearings hideously tight on the pinion? both inner and outer were tight. then i mangled the nut, so ordered a new nut for fzj80, only to find the nitro pinion uses the smaller fine 40 series threads

What did you do with your 80 this weekend: maintenance, fix, wheel, nothing, new mod??

Me:
Checked air in tires
Change oil&filter 180,000
Fill gas tank
Waiting on box of parts from Beno
Changed oil and trany, painted hood and grill black, tented windows black, smoked out the lights, filled it up with gas then went wheeling!!:steer:

Tire Upgrade

I took my wife's winter tires into Discount Tire to have them repair a 1.5" gash in the tread and they said it was too big to patch so I just bought a new set of ATs for it...but while the sales guy was looking up details for pricing on her tires he started asking me about my Cruiser's tires. He liked the swing out carrier I had but noticed that I had a 315 spare and new looking 285 Duratrac's on the truck. He asked me if I wanted an upgrade and I told him that I just bought the 285s from them 2 months ago. He offered me a 100% refund of the 285s if I wanted to upgrade to the 315s...I just stared at him for a minute and then asked for details. I guess if the wear is minimal Goodyear will take the tires back if you want to switch to a different tire of theirs...good deal for me! He had a set of 315 Duratracs that somebody backed out on and since they weighed so much he didn't want to pay for shipping them back. He offered to do a deal on the 265s for the Sequoia ($50 less than his quote) and then $120 for the 315 Duratracs to cover the price difference between the sizes. I couldn't say no and so now I have 35" tires instead of 33" tires. Awesome!

Don't mind the front bumper...I took it off last night in anticipation of putting my winch on inside the bumper tonight. I think I'm going to leave the side caps off when I re-install the bumper.

Yes they are suppose to be, used a press on the inner (never seen it done any other way). Last set use solid pinion spacers. I did not do the gears but watch my gear guy do them. No different than any other setup.

I'm about a month away from ordering gears for the LX so will post if I have issues with the Nitro's this time or not.

Now THAT is a solid deal, and the truck looks great!

Tight is ine thing, but I've never had one where threading the nut wouldn't press the bearing in. That's without the sleeve

I took my ol 91 3fe 80 down to American Fork Canyon and drove the forest lake trail. The lake was small and could use more water, but at this time of year what do you expect. The truck has a lock-rite autolocker in the rear, 1” MAF spring spacer lift on all 4 corners, 4Runner wheels, and 265/75/16 Cooper ATP tires.
edit: I guess you can see that stuff in my sig, doh.
Besides some desert running and the occasional rough double track, this trail really was my first time out on a tougher trail. (Tough is relative right?) The truck performed well, never lost traction, and was suitably up to the task. Here’s a few pics…

Went to Cayton Ok. to Green Acres, for the Toyota meet. Maiden voyage for my 1994. She did great, and had a great time. There are some hard trails and easy. I locked in one time just as a precaution.

Awesome's a good word. That's quite the deal you swung! Congrats and the new new tires look really great.

Awesome, factory flareless and solid rear window 80. Very rare.

Went quail hunting. 550 miles down the Mojave Desert, 140 miles off road, 550 miles back--no problems...except there was no quail. :bang: What other vehicle will transport three guys, all their stuff for hunting and camping, and wheel without breaking a sweat?

Does your rig have sliding rear glass on one side and solid on the other? Just noticed that it looked like that on your pics.

All work and no play.......

Started to tear apart for HG replace. Getting ready for finishing it this coming weekend... not looking forward to all the flushes...

Last night I rotated the tires and lubed the driveshaft, hard to believe I've already put 12,000km on this truck! There's one zerk on the rear driveshaft that I can't seem to get my greasegun's fitting onto, the joint is too tight to get it all the way in there, is there some sort of skinny attachement I can get for it? I can get it 2/3 on, but the grease doesn't go in, just builds up around the zerk.

I use one of these on my grease gun,

Where did you go at Cayton? I am headed there myself this weekend, for the Oklahoma Land Cruiser meeting. There is some good stuff there, you can get as nasty or as easy as you want.

We were at a park called frealings.
