There are tricks to getting these rigs to perform better on hills and mountains. They run very well at high RPMs and can do so for extended lengths of time. I put the power button on and then downshift until the RPMs are very high. I keep the tach out of the red but will climb an entire mountain in second gear if I have to. Try it. It isn't going to make your rig perform like a rig with a modern V8 engine but it is acceptable. By the way, I was laughing my ass off at your comments about getting passed by a semi. Been there and done that many times. You will get used to getting passed when driving an 80 series. They aren't that nimble at high speed so slower is probably better! :)
Yup.

Yes, this.

If I don't have a decent running start, mine is just a SLOG uphill. I normally do the same thing: Drop into 2nd gear and push the power button and run at 3500+ RPMS up the hill.

I normally stay in the far right lane when going down the freeway.

Yeah, she'll do 85 mph, but it's like strapping yourself onto an meteor that's just LOOKING for a planet to slam into and cause an extinction level event ;)

Once it’s in 2nd what’s the power button do in addition to that? Thought the power button just changed the shift points? If it’s in 2 it’s not going to up-shift anyway. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Did another much needed camping trip in the Sierra. Had an entire campground nearly to myself. Did some hiking, 12 miles one day, 5 the next. I found some new to me rock scribbles.

You mean your Power button doesn't feel like a shot of nitrous?

You better look into that.....

I found out my neighbor at the other end of the campground was on mushrooms, so I turned on my lights to f* with him.

Good guy, we shared some tequila and a campfire.

And yes, full moon.

Yes...changes the shift point in the sense that it (PWR button) holds the Cruiser in each gear a little longer before shifting, which helps uphill...but you sacrifice a bit more fuel (negligible/YMMV).

This is the first auto transmission vehicle I've ever owned. It took me 5 years to learn how to use it.

Yeah, just shift into 2d and cruise up the hills. Turn off the OD, or downshift on the downhills, to avoid taxing your brakes.

Does it count that I got the title switched over to no longer include my soon to be ex-wife? It still needs to be smogged. (the 80, not the ex).
Better smog the ex while your at it 🤣

But putting it in 2 holds any further shift points indefinitely so the power button is moot. That’s my point.
