I’ve done it both ways. Doing it hot is much more stressful than doing it cold. You’re fighting time and everything is cooling down fast once you open the top. I think it qualifies as an “art”...Hmm, mine definitely sounds like a sewing machine. I've done a cold adjustment, I guess that means I need to do it hot now.
I check them with the motor running. It isn't as bad as it sounds. It also gives you a chance to look for other valve train related issues.I’ve done it both ways. I'll have to check them cold and see if they match the chart then. Not really looking forward to doing it a third time, but I will if necessary. Is there a good way to rotate the motor from the engine bay? I jacked up a rear wheel and rotated it in 4th gear, but that requires two people. If you can't hear them, they are too tight.

I really want to see a video on this.. Having done it cold and seeing it run, I can't imagine getting a feeler gauge in there and accurately measuring anything while its running. Maybe I'll give it a shot tho.
Here’s a thread which describes what JimC has to say about valve clearance... where is the long tall transmission lever? Thought most 5 speeds were shorter than that?
This is a 4l60e 4speed auto. I just dont have the t case shifter installed. It goes onto that silver bracket on the right side of the adapter
Yea....was sarcasm. Auto's aren't my favorite.
