Loaded the truck up with a MC carrier and my Kawasaki 250. Drove up to Big Bear for some trail riding. This is the first time I actually drove the truck that far and up grades and loaded. The truck did not skip a beat. Never overheated!
and was slow as usual up the hills. But lots of smiles for miles.

Performed a valve adjustment. Replaced some leaky bits on the carb. Re-set fuel mix and timing. And installed a vacuum gauge in the cabin. No leaks... now.... can I pass emissions without cheating? Doubtful...

Sanded down the passenger quarter panel, found the previous owner had filled this giant hole with bondo. Had to make four patch panels with 18ga, using a flux core welder so easily burnt through. Left a couple pin holes, will use fiberglass filler then Bondo. Also treated back side of metal with phosphoric acid. Surprisingly not very rusty.

Nearly had a panic attack watching it leave Phoenix for Illinois where I’ll be moving back to in 2 weeks. It will be safely kept in storage until I get there, but still a very uneasy feeling.
And no, there’s not a chance in hell it will ever, EVER see road salt.

Successfully replaced my tattered and worn out driver's seat cover and padding with a donor passenger side one in much better condition. I know it may not last forever because there is no vinyl on the side but damn it's so much more comfortable!

Got Ole Gringo some new shoes…Back Country 285/75/17’s. Hopefully, they last longer than the Nittos I had…they got burned thru in only 25k miles!

Continued to diagnose a slow acceleration/loss of power issue with my '86 FJ60 with a 3FE. It's looking more and more like a fuel quality/delivery problem. I decided to burn some of the fuel in the tank (may drain it tomorrow) by taking a long, scenic loop south of town. Stopped by the Visitor Center in Bandelier National Monument to check out the museum (again - for at least the hundredth time), then drove across to the small picnic area for a quick snack by the stream. My wife and I were very disappointed to find that there was no running water in the stream (what's with that @Tank5?). That's the first time since we started going there 64 years ago that there hasn't been water in the stream. But the Land Cruiser looked right at home.

I swapped Depo lenses to original lamps. Was not happy with the quality of Depo. Worst thing was that bulb socket turned aroud and did not lock properly.

I agree that they aren’t great and don’t fit properly. I used portions of my old assemblies with the new housings. I posted more about those issues here:

These trucks turn so many heads these days that we need some deterrents to keep some of the creeps away! Can’t tell you how many times people walk up to the truck to chat while I have a cheese burger stuffed in my face.... I need a spot light to hit em with...
