What did you do with your 60 this weekend?

Too late, already used FIPG on the side cover gasket. šŸ˜‚
Why not just follow the FSM and stick to only the cork gasket? it should fill in nicely with oil, expand, and seal up. Just like the crankshaft front cover. Did that to both and still looks good. I know these tend to seep but that's like after hundreds ok K miles.

YES! Those steelies look the part.

Do you recall what brand/model radio antenna you have?

Thanks

The antenna itself is just a non-tunable Firestick knockoff I got from Fry's. Using the Wagongear CB antenna setup:

wagongear.com Ā» Antenna Mount

wagongear.com Ā» Antenna Mount Info & Installation

I have a splitter box which allows me to use the CB antenna for both FM/AM radio signals as well as CB send/receive. Its listed in the instructions. This is the box I ended up getting:

Amazon.com: ProComm Im-AF Splitter CB AM FM Radio Audio Stereo Antenna MultiPlexor: Electronics

I do not have the proper stock antenna grommet so my setup is a little different than folks might normally have. Setup works pretty well allowing a single antenna for both AM/FM and CB. HTH.

I ran that setup, but with the Trail Tailor version of the mount, and it worked great. I recently went back to stock FM antennae and separate CB antennae that is easily removed for street. @onemanarmy , PM me if you are interested in a swinging deal on my removed stuff, it is just taking up space in the shop.

Because I never found someone that said don’t do it, including the Toyota guys next door. Also, a lot has changed in 40 years.

Cork gasket manufacturers say not to do so, as it may interfere with the absorption of the oil and expansion. But I'm sure it's not always the case.

I guess we’ll find out. Maybe I won’t do it on the timing cover since that won’t be fun to re-do. If the pushrod cover leaks that’s a breeze to replace.

Only use sealant where it states in the FSM. Especially on the timing cover. You’re correct in your assessment... you don’t want to do it again. Ask me how I know... all my cork gaskets are installed dry unless otherwise noted by Toyota and I have no leaks. Not the case when I was putting sealer on them.

Georg taught me something while I was in his shop regarding the reseal you're doing... Do not do what I did and use the Toyota PPG Black sealant on the gaskets. All my stuff leaks again (Doh! I'll re do it again this winter maybe)

I took a pic of this stuff at his shop. Clean thoroughly, spray a layer of this on the engine... Wait 10 minutes. Also spray a healthy amount on the gasket and wait 10 min. Marry the surfaces... Wait overnight.

@joebattle1 Is he using this on wet applications like oil pans? Permatex website makes it seem like it is geared toward more dry applications.

I’m all for it either way if it helps seal, a light coat on either side of the gasket can’t hurt.

I’m about to drop this pan and dive into this deliciousness, side cover gasket to follow...

John, I know that must have been a tough decision, but know it went to a good home :). I’m sure some of the parts I’ve sourced from you in the past may make their way to this truck. Jimmy
After breakfast with McGuire Sunday morning he asked us to send him some photos of some of the family trips we've done in the '84. This one came to mind, on one of many trips to Canyonlands National Park.

Exactly, I just used a light coat applied with my finger to help keep the gasket in place. I think when most people have leaking issues it’s because they over tightened the bolts or didn’t properly flatten the mounting surface from someone previously over tightening them. Either way, the truck has run for about an hour and I’ve had no signs of leaks yet. I’m going to drive it tomorrow to work and recheck it.
My side cover gasket was original so I didn’t have any issues with mating surface flatness on the cover side.

Finally finished up the seat swap! they are from a first gen Scion Xb, couldn't argue with the $35 price tag from the junkyard. they sit a couple of inches higher, but that's not inherently bad. the bolsters are significantly more comfortable and feel more stable. Glad I was able to retain the factory plastics on the bottom and the sliding capability. I used the sliders from the 60 seats and was able to mount them to the scion seats. Shoutout to @POTATO LAUNCHER for help figuring out the seats

After that i figured it was time to finally get the roof rack and small basket mounted that has been sitting in my garage for a long time. I got the gutter mounts from @Rigger and ended up just bolting a couple of sections of 3/4 inch 11Ga square tubing to the mounts because I couldn't find any thule rails anywhere and got impatient. if i find some on craigslist or marketplace I'll end up swapping them out most likely.

The basket isn't ideal being so small, but i already had it kicking around from my daily so i couldn't justify to the wife the purchase of a full size basket considering we'll likely almost never use it.

Speaking of seats, does anyone need a couple of 60 seats without rails?

I have this same set up. Works great.
