We towed a good sized pop-up for a few years when we lived in Seattle. I had a 5-speed in the '85 FJ60. It was slow going but manageable. Make sure you have electric brakes on the trailer! Also, I had to do a spring-over on the trailer to get it up higher for more level towing. It was the wife and two small kids. Not undo-able, but don't expect much when going up hill. I also read somewhere Toyota didn't rec towing in 5th gear...I didn't know that back then, so I did all the time when I could. Just set your expectations low and you'll be happy!hey fellas what do you think? I know there's a couple of old threads about towing with 60s but thought I'd hear back from more folks in this more general thread. Apologies in advance if this is an out there question. For the last few years I've been looking for a camping solution to pull behind my Cruisers. I have a low mile 89 FJ62 converted to a new H55F manual and a 96 FZJ80. For years I've towed all manner of campers up to 28ft with my trust Ford Super Duty. Bought a larger popup camper with a 14.5ft box and it was a high wall (3,000lbs plus and that's dry weight) a couple years back hoping to pull that with my cruisers but it's a losing proposition. There's some pretty big hills between Phoenix and the much cooler north country up I-17. After lots of searching I finally found this gem a 2006 Fleetwood Yuma. It's a 9.5ft box, about 14ft overall, with no AC, no hot water heater, but it does have a furnace and a water pump. Just wanted something simple and light. It's 1500lbs dry weight. Can't wait to try it hooked to my FJ62. If that'll pull it then the much more modern inline six in the 80 series should pull it okay. Any predictions?

It was a last minute thing by the only chain tire shop that could get me in to get that off my list before leaving for SAS. I also locked my keys in the truck as my wife was dropping me off to pick it up, so we had to go home to get my spare and by the time we got back I wasn't even thinking about checking out their handiwork. I highly doubt they spun the tire on the rim.@Kleatus can't help noticing the amount of wheel weights on that left wheel, did they try rotating the tire?
Nice rig you got there.
Work in progress. Got SOA done, all new suspension hardware and por15 the frame(where I could reach)

Haha will try not to, and yeah springs/soa it is. Hoping for bumpers to weight it down an inch or two, we shall see I guess.Lol-That is one tall FJ60! Looks like lift springs/SOA. Take your corners slowly and carefully. Lookin' good though. Just don't make the next pic of you upside down!
Those were the springs I got when I bought the truck, I know it definitely is a tad bit too tall. So until I get some Chevy 63s just going to have to drive real careful. And no sway bars.Don’t think I’ve ever seen lift springs SOA. That’s like 7” to 8” before tires! There’s a reason it not the norm.
Hope you have sway bars. Please be safe.
Cute to zoom in and see your daughter in the window. I’m always taken back at how dry it is out west and knowing to you guys that’s green! While some MUDders went to the SAS, I chose to take my family up to Leadville to get out of this oppressive drought, heat and smoke. Spent a few hours at the Boomdays festival before making our way out to Haggerman pass to camp. I grew up here and was so pleased to see how clean folks have kept it. Set up camp just below 12,000 ft and marveled at the flora and fauna that isn't a desert. My daughter loves raspberries and got to pick all she could eat. View attachment 1762002
