Good lookin’ turd and good lookin’ FJ Cruiser in the driveway!
Thanks, the FJ is the wife's ride. 150,000 uneventful miles on it. Routine maintenance is key.

If I have time before we start towards Ouray, I'll have to wash mine, hit it with Meguiar's rubbing compound, and give it a good wax. As far as I know it's only had one quick wash (a few weeks ago) since it was parked out back of the PO's house in 1995. Can't wait to see how the original sun faded paint looks after a little TLC.

Nothing like peer pressure!

Nope, no pressure John. My method of attack today was one coat of NuFinish carpolish, (apparently I am at least a year behind on the once a year polish), applied with Mothers Power Ball followed with a hand rubbed coat of Turtle Wax. I followed Mr Miyagi's rules on this and am now a blue belt in Karate..

Push rod cover gasket, dizzy o-ring, oil cooler o rings and fresh paint, fuel pump gaskets, new water pump, new thermostat and gaskets, EGR inlet gasket, and I'm in the middle of doing the timing cover gasket. Lots and lots and lots of cleaning and scrubbing disgusting stuff off of every thing everywhere. Lots of biking back and forth to the parts stores for... things, you know... I'm pooped.

Out with the old manifold, in with the new(ish). Pic number 2 shows where the gasket blew.

I'd like to claim this all happened this weekend but it's been a lot of little chunks of time over the last month. All that's left is the carb, air cleaner, and spaghetti.

Don't you just love it when you find hidden shiny stuff under 30 years of grime?

Swapped in rebuild third member with new 4.88's to match the rear that's been in for a couple weeks, changed transfer case oil, changed trans fluid, changed PS fluid, lubed driveshaft and suspension. SAS#2 here we come!

Polished the ol' blue turd up for the trek up to SAS #2. Been a couple of years since it has been this clean and shiney. Forcast is rain this week. Guaranteed everytime.

hey potato launcher. Thanks again for keeping me on the alt list for SAS this year. I'll be sure to make it next year for #3. Maybe I'll bring some Arizona sunshine with me.

Absolutely, I'll include you in the first wave of contact emails sometime around the new year. SAS is a great place to be when the heat is up.

Took some friends up north for a short overnighter in Santa Barbara mountains off West Camino Cielo. Then parked the truck and rode to San Felipe on the bike....definitely would like to go back to Baja in the truck, so many good places to visit that I couldn't reach on the bike.

New weatherstripping and de-chrome at all exterior windows plus new run at the driver's window. Also re-installed the original reworked regulator and threw the aftermarket POS that i installed a year ago in the trash. All is good in the window world now.

you blew a head gasket or carb gasket? I just got my Carb back from rebuild. I've been fist fighting CA smog for the last 3 months. Ordering vacuum hose now. Hoping my carb rebuild is the final trick.

Pretty sure he was pointing out the manifold to head.

Blew the manifold gasket, thankfully not the head. The carb doesn't have much of a gasket, just the thin pre-applied thing on both sides of the insulator. Insulators are still available for around $100 so i went ahead and got one.

What are your smog numbers like? what are you failing on?
