Loaded her up along with a couple punk kid friends of my daughter and drove up the Rubicon to Bear Lake for the weekend. A little top heavy especially without the sway bars attached. Still wildflowers and green grass up there. Great mountain biking, fishing and general farting around in the pig on the trails.

Cool. Looks and sounds like fun. How long is that canoe?

(Post 443 has the before pics.)
It took a while but I went out for its maiden voyage today. Not quite done but needed to go for a drive.Put in 55 bucks worth of gas and blew some carbon out of it.Best comment, "What year is your Jeep?"

Looks great! What is it about those '74 bodies??? They seem to be the most durable.
I have the same colors on my '74 - Nebula Green!

Thanks.

The '74 body was very solid.Patched the rear quarters and front fenders, added the vent window doors and a later model hood.I may install some early front signals I picked up as well.

Used parts of another donor to rebuild the front floors and body mounts.Got good ideas here to rebuild the rear mounts.Sealed everything to keep the rot to a minimum for another 30 + years.
Final color is undecided but Nebula is top of the list.

Long live the Pig!!:pig:

took it out for a drive longer than a 8 block radius, and picked up some coffee with it. Since it started again, I went and bought some groceries.
:D
The rear sway bar needs fixed, it does not feel very stable in the rear at 45.

Nice.....

Lose the sway bar and put some Alcans on it

Trust me

When I reinstalled my rear sway bar, I could not notice an improvement. Was kind of bummed. Needs upgrade, maybe alittle stiffer springs too.
As far as my Pig, I looked at it. Looks like I need to take it wheeling.

Yes you do need to take it wheeling Jacky-boy... ha! Then show us the photos.

I took mine to work today, and at lunch did a little honey-do for Momma and finally found out why the driveshaft has been wobbling a little under load....

Whilst driving through town, the driveshaft came loose from the rear flange,........ right in front of the auto parts store.

I go in, they have the bolts... just as I'm diving under to fix it, my boss walks by and tells me to take the rest of the day off! (YES!!)

It happened to be my last day at this job anyway, so it worked out great. I rebolted the driveshaft right there in the middle of Tahoe City and went home. Funny thing is that wobble went away.... ha!

Bigsal, what happened with your job?

Thanks Bob

Just switching, but I was getting laid off due to funding. Thanks for asking.

Now I'll be doing forest carbon sequestration projects as a forester, but will get to travel internationally a bit.

Looking forward to driving some land cruisers in Africa!

ya ever get involved with the NFS programs that are based out of UNLV? My brother in law is in the middle of it all. John

1.5" wheel spacers. Result = *amazing*. BTW, the spidertrax spacers dont work in the front since the hole doesnt clear the hub housing.

Got pix?

Added bucket seats... then drove it up to Watson Lake.... WOW what a difference. Thanks Pighead for the seat mount!! I also moved the rear heater to the center between the seats. I ordered a center console that will sit above the rear heater, giving it a direct shot to the rear seat area. Anyone want to buy my old front seat? It's in great shape, just one tear shown in the photo.

Is your heater bottom flat or rounded?

Rounded, but it sits just fine in the spot, since it is a little pinned in there between the seat bracket and the carpet and padding. It works great, doesn't bind and doesn't bounce around.

Ummmm

You mentioned moving the rear heater to the center. Where was it before?

Howdy!! After about 2 years of not having it on the road/trail, I got back on track. I had done a rear disk conversion, due to massive rear brake failure on the trail, with a BLM Executive riding along. Also replaced all of the soft lines on both axles. Could not get brakes to pump up good, so went thru 3 master cylinders til I got everything working. Drove it about 24 miles, mostly freeway, to a blacksmith shop where I am practicing/learning to heat n hit for a living. Runs 75+ just fine in the left lane, but the tires are super square, so it really beat me to death till they started rounding out. Not too bad by the time I got home. I did get some Death Wobble when hitting some major construction seams in the road, so I still need to trouble shoot that.As much as I enjoy my new 80, I really love the sound of my old V8. Feels pretty good to be back up in the air again, too. It is more than a foot taller than the 80. Hmmmm, getting close to Trail Time!! John

It's mounted in a well just off center towards drivers side. Isn't yours?
