Got a new fuse box and an auxiliary usb / voltage gage wired up! I also built a steel plate for the gages to mount into that replaces the ash tray (no new holes, yet).
This has been long overdue for me as my speedometer has never worked like it should.
From the battery, I added a 100A relay (triggered from the key in the on position and an oil pressure dafety switch) and also added in a 100A manual trip fuse before connecting into the + side fuse panel.
Then added a 10A fuse for the USB plug and digital voltage gage and i am now the very proud owner of a 50 year old 40 that 1.) can charge a cell phone and 2.) can now operate Waze to tell me how slow i am going.
I have never been sure if the honks are from the sweet ride or be just going slower than most...

Recovering some really worn out and sun-damaged sun-visors with some now guts (foam, felt and clear tape) and tan sun-brella fabric. Waiting for some vipers to show up to finish off the closure end.

While you have everything set up sure I could find a bunch more visors needing recovering. When I bought my 68 back in 1974 the original owner had one of those holders used for registration and insurance cards. The two marks for the clips have never come out in over forty six years.

I have never been one for mass producing items because i take so darn long on the first one i just want it to be over with once i get everything figured out...
Still waiting for the zippers to come today

Pulled the bumper today and squeezed in the Warn EVO and mapped out the challenges to finish the job. I have to find a spot to mount the control box in the engine compartment and order longer electrical leads. Bumper probably weighs 200+ pounds now, thank God for the cherry picker.

Since we have 2-3rd Gens in the family and I at least plan on keeping mine for a while, I invested in these....

New electrons for the FJ40

The FJ40 was getting harder to start and voltage was dropping down to single digits on every start. I bought a new toy - a battery charge tester - and found out that three of my five batteries test bad. Both main and backup batteries in the FJ40 and the backup battery in the Taco showed less than 50% capacity.

One of the last Sears Platinum batteries ever sold. Bought this one months after they officially quit selling them.
Tester shows 512 CCA out of the rated 1150, but it drops to 9.8 volts when starting, and during the last camping trip to Turkey Creek the fridge almost drained it overnight. When new, the Sears Platinum would run the fridge for three days and have plenty left to start up.

Still need to replace the backup battery. 750 CCA battery is down to 22% left. While I was changing out the main battery I test started the FJ40 with this one, and while weak, it did start. Maybe if I get a second round of stimuli checks I'll replace this one too.

What do those run? My old school load tester resembles a toaster.

Napa in Kearney had them for $69. I read 211 CCA left on the battery I took in for a core charge, and the Batteries Plus guy's "real" load tester read 208. He read 1200 CCA on the new battery and I read 1180, so the cheap tester looks like it will be close enough for me.

Need to test all my batteries each quarter to better predict failures.

P.S. I waved at 211 this afternoon when I was coming back from Tucson.

Had front Eaton E-Locker installed. Added 1.25" wheel spacers.

This week I installed the K9 rack, the Sy-Klone precleaner and painted my steelies. View attachment 2560396View attachment 2560397

Rig looks great and those steelies, wow. How do you like the precleaner and where did you source? I've been looking at options in that area and haven't found a lot. Just saw on your build thread that you sourced from SnorkelUpgrade.com - Which model did you go with?
