Just did the worst thing I could do to my HZJ 73....
ON THE 4th of July, I have brought home an American Icon, to distract me from the stuff I need to do on the cruiser.

Engine was not locked but only God knows what is the health state of it
Gearbox and transfer case were full of nice clear........water😔
Brakes are not locked, so this is nice, but not working as well.
This is what I found so far on a vehicle which did not start in the past 35 years.

I know that this is not directly related to all 70 series, but it will surely delay mine from its much needed transmission, t-case and rear axle overhaul....and some extended bodywork
Keep safe

Finally got to installing a Redarc 25 amp Charge Equalizer. (also - Redarc had a deal and it with a free 80w solar panel)
Installed complete with a heavy duty dual relay wired up to the handy ignition power outlet in the engine bay.
Removed the headlight cleaner reservoir assembly, made up a couple brackets - not the prettiest but for now they'll do, and installed in the tight space. Only sheared one bolt!
I am going to remove my 24-12v converter and run all of my 12v loads off a centre tap, usually a no-no but my loads are under 25 amps and the charge equalizer should be able to keep up.
Eventually I will install a third (LifePO4) battery with a BCDC charger to run my 12V and leave the equalizer in place to keep the batteries happy.

A couple of Skyline Drive shots from last week. They are very mild compared to what Felde just shared, but it is what I have.

My daughter snapped an embarrassing shot of me at the information center on the Skyline.

Got out a wire wheel on an angle grinder and started the long delayed inner and outer rocker repair on passenger side. I’ve been unable to mount the running boards for too long and the passenger side fender rattles because the tab that holds it at the rocker rusted off. The job will grow as my fender liners are welded to front fender currently so restoration will be in order as parts go back on. Does anyone know if inner rockers are available for lj70? I’m going to cut off patches so it could be from another model if the width and shape are the same.

Brigo Workshop on YouTube has a good series on 70 rockers.

I don’t know if they are available. He fabricates his own.

I drove over the Blue Ridge via Swift Run Gap to get license plates for the newest member of my little RHD fleet.
Could only go uphill at about 40-couple mph but it's good enough. EGT's did not get too high. Boost was off the scale.
Monument for the Knights of the Golden Horseshoe is on the right. Road goes under Skyline Drive.

I've gotten this combo out for a few trips in July already, mostly within a few hours of home.

I'm hoping to have my gullwing window before the end of the summer, but the duct tape tint is holding for now.
Looking really sweet Phil, you have put a lot of thought and effort into what works for you and it looks as though it is paying off nicely. How are you enjoying the new trailer? Knowing you, you are probably already compiling a list of improvements and items you want to install, upgrade and dial in. :)

It looks great behind ol' betsy!!

EDIT: Sorry to hear about the rear window... but you took it in stride in true Philstrom form and looked at it as an opportunity for upgrade and improvement (I do the same thing... lol.)

Darren you know me so well. Opportunity is exactly how I see it.

Trailer has been excellent. Already done a few upgrades and I'm sure it will get more. Tows better than having a rooftop tent on the roof, esp with a headwind. Has gone to places that I didn't even fathom it would fit. And then it opens up into a giant space that my friends tell me is obscene as they climb their ladders for the night.

But still... Intercooler is now waiting in the shop. ;)

Snagged a set for an HZJ77 like 2 years ago from our favorite parts person named Dave. Little more wheelbase than a LJ70 but here are the part numbers I used.

Outer LHS Rocker – 61402-60010
Outer RHS Rocker – 61401-60010
Inner LHS Rear – 57414-60020
Inner LHS Front – 57402-60060
Inner RHS Rear – 57413-60020
Inner RHS Front - 57401-60040

edit: "our favorite" not "are favorite", idiot.

Hey gang, installing an intercooler on the KZJ78 this week! Question for all of you who have done this before: the right side of the “air horn” (metal pipe pictured horizontally across) faces down. This means that the intercooler pipe coming up from the underneath-right side doesnt line up to the intake because its opening face up (as circled in the pic).

How have you solved this? Is there a part you have bought so the opening faces down?

Thanks!
