Got the 14" soft glides (amazon!!!) and the aluminum drawers for the galley. Drawers are the trays from the flight attendant trolly. I double stick tape the glides and then attach with small screws. Then Sike to the faces whatever finish material. Aluminum, Blyboo, etc. Got also the drawing with the layout for the galley. My beautiful architect wife...

The front part behind the passenger is not yet laid out internally but the top small cabinet will have the electrical control panel facing forward for easy access. The 4th aluminum tray will sit inside so I can access it also from the outside gull window. No glides so we can pull it both ways.

I removed the latches and hinges from the fridge and attached 2" L aluminum so I can Sika the Corian®. Hinges will be outside and be able to separate the top so we can pull the fridge from the top for service. Latches outside as well.

We got the 79 on the hoist this morning. Transmission was out by early afternoon.
I wasn't expecting it already but this afternoon, UPS delivered my Terrain Tamer HD clutch! Thanks to Georg @orangefj45 and Roark for blasting that baby right off.
I might actually make getting this done and camper ready for the U.P. trip next week!

Always happy to help!!!!

Gents need some recommendations. Finally got the head off my 1KZ-TE, Cracked head, timing belt pulley and need new gasket. Replacing all gaskets, ceramic coating the exhaust manifold to help with heat, new water pump, timing belt, injectors, glow plugs, etc. Already have new rad, fan clutch and installing 10 blade fan. Found out the turbo manifold is cracked and turbo needs replaced. Question is, what turbo/manifold setup should I go with? I have a 3" exhaust from the turbo back. I'm not trying to go crazy. I want something to last without having to put extra things on to support a bigger boost. This is my daily driver and will be in Florida, but since I am replacing it all, is there options to go bigger without having to upgrade everything else? If stock replacement is the way to go, any recommendations on who to buy from? I find a full setup for around $200 and then others for $1200+ when it is the same part number and what not. Just don't know if anyone has had luck buying a complete plug and play turbo/manifold......

Do you have an intercooler already? That is arguably the most important mod for these cars for the sake of longevity. It being as hot as it is in Florida I would prioritize this. As far as the manifold/turbo replacements I don't have firsthand experience to help, but I was looking at Krae 4x4 for potential upgrades. Hopefully someone who has already replaced these parts can chime in.

Some people here have either upgraded parts or increased boost on these engines with success. If I can remember their names I'll tag them.

I don't have an intercooler. I agree it would be best to put it on now since everything is apart. Looking at balancing cost right now.

where did you get the galley trays?

What are you doing about the head? If these are minor cracks that are common, they can be repaired. I used a shop in Oakland CA, that has been doing diesel head repairs for the last 50 years. They had CAT heads that were 7’ tall standing. They repaired my 1HDFT that had 2 minor cracks and rebuilt it like new including valves, seats, seals etc. $1000. I ended up doing this after spending $3000 on a new head (1HDFTE) and all the parts. Figured a spare FT head someone of my friends can use.

By the way, most of this damage could have been avoided with an efficient intercooler. My humble experience is that on all my cruisers reduced EGT by 200F average.

Photos of the damaged head and rebuilt.

I ordered a new fully assembled head from Australia with gasket kit. I’m working with performance_tube_fabrication to see about an intercooler setup bc it is the right thing to add. I see an upgraded turbo from Kinugawa turbo that is a plug and play, but don’t know if anyone has used them. Not trying to make it super performance. Just want it to be more efficient for longevity and daily use.

You could go all out with the intercooler piping and wrap it in gold reflective foil. If it's good enough for the McLaren F1 it's good enough for our trucks. I've never seen it done on a LC though.

I’ll second the suggestion for an IC. It was not too difficult to route the tubing for a FMIC. I went through the radiator support with two holes behind the stock horn locarions. I went with an IC that left enough room for a future winch. EGTs under boost are down by about 300 F. It is now difficult to get EGT over 1000. whereas before I could easily get to 1300+ if I did not back off. I also irun a new blue fan clutch with 30K CST oil and a 72 C thermostat. Coolant temperatures rarely exceed 185 F at the outlet neck on the head, which should be the hottest point. Finally I run an air bleed valve at the boost sensor, which lets me trick the ECU into adding less fuel under boost. It makes less power I’m sure, but not really noticeable in daily driving. My priority is temperature control for longevity. Hope those help.

Nice setup!! Do you have a factory airbox?

When I bought my 74 it had a few gouges in the headliner which was otherwise intact and in good shape. Because it was still firmly attached (and the fact that I’m lazy) I glued new headliner material over the original. The job took about 3 hours and $60 in materials from Amazon.

My new Terrain Tamer HD clutch is in (thanks @orangefj45 !). Pedal effort is definitely more (as you would expect) but more of a perceived difference than a nuisance. It holds great.
I also put on a set of 35" tires- Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT's. They are a very tight fit, but seem pretty good. They push my effective gear ratio up about 3% if my math is right. That's about half of a standard ring and pinion ratio jump. I may end up with new wheels at some point with some negative offset to push the wheels out some, then put on flares. Likely that will be a case of sourcing wheels from AU because 16" wheels in 5x150 with zero offset or slightly negative offset don't exist in the U.S. that I can find. That is another big expense of time and money so it will wait for now.
Loving the look though.
