I’ve been holding strong holding onto it after a divorce, but realistically I should be freeing up some funds.

Don’t ever get divorced.
A old wise man once told me it’s never good to divide by 2 and it’s cheaper to keep her.

Sorry for your troubles! That’s a clean rig !!

Hello,

Divorce and moving are two things I do not wish for anyone, not even the worst enemy.

I hope you can keep your truck. Or find a good home for it, perhaps even with the hope of buying it back eventually.

Hey guys, I am located in the USA and I am open to looking for a truck anywhere in USA from California to Florida.

These are the requirements for the 70 series that I want.
1) it needs to be left-hand drive
2) have AC
3) be fuel injected.
4) not a prado I want the heavy duty version

I would prefer a four-door but would settle for a pick up truck or troop carrier.

Which Land cruisers do you recommend looking for? which models with which engines? I would again prefer naturally aspirated, but I would consider a turbo diesel if there is a certain version available for USA import.

Any recommendations on which model to look for ?

There are so many versions and letters that it is a bit confusing to me, and I am looking for a little bit of guidance from the experts.
I had the same post/question. I would like to find a survivor original paint color two door short wheelbase FJZ70 to complement my 83 40LX. I rarely use AC yet want OEM air, and while my 40s carb is dialed in nicely having FI would be nice even for a part-time fair-weather driver. Just typing that last sentence makes me realize I'd prioritize comfortable (rear) suspension and no rust over the AC and FI. A very lateral move from what I have.

Finding one to meet your requirements is going to be difficult in the US because petrol EFI only recently became importable.

In August 1999 the new EFI pickups and troopies started rolling out which makes them possible to import -- if you can find one with a manufacture window between 8/99 and 6/00. (Importability is based on month+year of manufacture, not model year, so the window will increase month by month)

You could get a middle east FZJ78 (troopy) or 79 (pickup) which would be LHD, fuel injected with the much more powerful coil pack 1FZ-FE, front coil springs, larger cab (for the pickup truck).

Get two and put them in a container and sell one, they would be very desirable in the US.

If I had a spare $49K I'd be picking this one up asap

I test drove this one. Very clean. Way different than the 12HT FJ40 I just bought.

If you live here (Colorado Springs), you'd have to put a turbo in. I'm contemplating it or a HZJ73/74 just because I like the topless option.

Anyone have experience from turbo'd 1HZ at elevation?

I agree with the turbo in Colorado. I recently drove my HZJ77 in Colorado and the power got pretty gutless and smoking like crazy when I got near Salida area.

The rough calculation is 3% loss for every 1000’ above sea level.

So 130hp crank at best on a 1HZ means a loss of 24hp so 106hp crank at best case scenario.

1HZ dynos report 90hp at the wheel on average so best case 73hp to the wheels.
Altitude does indeed take a toll on NA engines.

Everyone knows the secret is to get more air and cooler denser air to your engine and what better way to do that than with a snorkel 😂 right??

@dubyahard as @OGBeno alluded to, cooling a 1hz correctly and dialing in that turbo setup costs quite a bit and definitely has risks.

Wouldn’t even consider adding a turbo without also adding an Intercooler.

Dang. That’s not what I wanted to hear. I live at 6500’.
So is there a good turbo w/intercooler thread to read into? Is there a good shop for this? I live near Redline.
There is a 1HDT swapped hzj73 in Dallas in the classifieds but the guy hasn’t been responsive.

Buy a 4Runner. Seriously. You’re asking for precisely what a 4Runner is. Or a hundy or a GX or a 250. Toyota built it specifically for you. Go buy one and never look back. People buy these old vehicles and then act surprised at 100 hp and third gear in the driveway. Just buy a 4Runner.

haha you are so right! I already have a 100. But I want a 200 too :)

IMO the 1FZ-FE with a 5 speed stick shift.
They started in 2000 in the middle East so LHD and starting next year they can be imported.
In the lighter 70 and a 5 speed the thing should rip plus it would be the coil pack version = more HP and torque from the factory then the 1FZ the 80 got.
They would also have the coil spring front spring/suspension.
It would be quieter then the Diesel counterpart and no diesel exhaust smell a win win again JMO !

The 4Runner doesn’t have the soul of a 70 series 🤷‍♂️

this would be a 2000 BJ75 ? BJ73 ?

That's way too sensible. I've had/have 4Runners, 80s, 100s, 200s.

Consensus seems to be that you're better off leaving a 1HZ NA and living with it, or swapping in a 1HD-T or 1HD-FT if you want a turbo. But yeah I've heard that an automatic 1HZ is about as slow as it gets. Slow but reliable. I bet if it had a manual it would be marginally better
