I wasn’t aware of the sensitivity of LC windshield glass replacement. I just learned that windshields should be OEM only. I just noticed mine must have been replaced, as it doesn’t say Toyota on the drivers bottom. On the passenger bottom, it’s some brand that starts with a “K” if I remember. I have no clue if it was done right or not. Now I’m freaking out, as I just bought this thing. I don’t usually have too many regrets, but this might be one of them.

I don’t think so. I’m just reading about the horror stories of rust, screws being used, and leaks. I seriously just learned about this all today. I have two other Toyotas I’m very well versed in; this is the first LC. Maybe I was a little naive.

nah...what is the point of worrying about it....worry when you have issues. If the install is good quality, then don't worry.

I guess I better figure out what good quality is. Things like this make me start thinking: did I pay too much for this thing? Am I going to have problems? Etc.

What matters most is the installer and not necessarily the glass. So if you took it to a quality shop you're good to go.

Well, it came this way when I bought it a few days ago. I honestly don’t know who did the work.

Not sure how many insurance companies pay for OEM glass replacement, so unless you pay for it out of pocket or have OEM parts replacement coverage, you'll probably get an aftermarket replacement windshield. As mentioned, the installation quality is probably most important.

Absolutely NOT necessary to have “Toyota” glass…because Tiyota doesn’t manufacture the glass anyway..
-Just “Toyota”-labeled other manufacturer glass. What you need…is a skilled, knowledgable installer—that uses the best manufacturers, and is picky about details like wiper de-icer wiring/connectors,

My most trusted Toyota service guy…who has been THE best to deal with 2002…who routinely tells me where they take their own Toyota glass needs to…to save massive money and get top service & same glass…. Using Toyota will ONLY get you a huge bill…but NOT better glass… I mean cost 2-4 times the $$…with glass exactly 0% better.

This is similar to some other parts such as our fancy Rock Warrior soline lug nuts that sell as “TRD…” -Those fancy TRD spine lug nuts are literally just re-branded McGards…. at nearly twice tge McGard price.

Exactly. Let us be honest here…LC Toyota glass cracks if you just look at it the wrong way! One of my more fragile glass that I have seen on any vehicles I own!

Pilkington is the recommended replacement by Toyota. But... I had a Pilkington in my last 200 and the wiper heater thingy was worthless. When my current truck needed a windshield I insisted on an OEM windshield, and State Farm said OK.

@enjoitheride I don't know what it is, but my windshield attracts rocks on the interstate like eyes to Sydney Sweeney's.....and it gets me swearing everytime!

Anyways, I have had a couple replacements with OEM glass and to echo what others have said the installer is vital. Pilkington is what comes OEM on Hondas, but as @KLF has said, it may also by OEM for Toyota too. I don't know enough to comment other than it seems to be good stuff with Honda replacements IME.

I'm going to wait until the current chips get to be unbearable before I replace my windshield (again). Thankfully, my insurance has been great to deal with overall through my recent trials. Keep an eye on your pax footwell for water ingress and go from there. If you really want to get froggy, check out the thread on water intrusion and see where others have discovered the water damage and check yours out for any signs. But above all, enjoy your new rig!
