Hi Guys and Girls,
Have any of you changed out the water pump on a 100 series?
How many hours does the average nit wit like me need to do it in?

Lots of people here have. Search "water pump", titles only, 100 section only. Dozens of threads. Timing belt and etc. is a recommended "while you're in there". I'd ballpark it from maybe 4 hours if you've done it before to maybe all day if you have problem bolts, etc.

Owing to where the water pump resides.....usually the job turns into a 'while you are in there' affair and for good reason.

With ALL parts in hand....a first timer should allow 8-10 hours depending on what you replace and clean up.

UNLESS the water pump had not been replaced during a timing belt change (if its ever had one) then are going to want to do that while you're there. It's one of those jobs you don't want to have to go 'back in'...any time soon. IF the timing belt and components HAVE been changed before (and are still good) it still takes quite a while to replace just the water pump.

What model year? How many miles on it? How many miles on the timing belt? How many miles on the water pump? What makes you think the water pump is bad?
1999,277800,on history on service.
I'm getting over heat issues,
I removed the thermostat,it seemed fine then for a day

I removed the top hose,ran the engine no water flow
This is without the thermostat installed.
I blew through the top hose with my mouth and the coolant came out of the top of the radiator with the filler Cap removed.

A water pump 'could' fail especially if has been changed out before and was a cheap aftermarket unit. Even the OEM unit has a plastic/Nylon impeller and it could be spinning on the shaft, who knows. Without a Tstat in place....it makes sense you should see some circulation of coolant and you say you did not.
 
and if a PO used a cheap aftermarket version, change everything in there.
timing belt, tensioner, etc .............take no chances
 
Because the water pump is on the timing belt and not the serpentine belt nobody knows how to replace the water pump only - everyone replaces both when the timing belt is due. The factory doesn't recommend this but the internet has taken over. The factory service manual says inspect the water pump when you replace the timing belt every 90k, and replace it if it shows shows signs of failure. OE / genuine water pumps last a long time on the 4.7L. Both million mile 4.7L Tundras required only one water pump in a million miles.

Water pump replacement in the factory service manual says to remove the timing belt. I suspect it's possible to get the water pump out without removing the timing belt off the crank and driver side cam but it may not be a big time saver. I hope to try this sometime to see if it's possible, have not read of anyone doing it. But you should take off the passenger side timing belt cover and have a look at the timing belt. If it doesn't look pretty new just go ahead and do the whole timing belt / water pump job, which I'd say is 6 to 8 hours for a first timer.
 
Well as expected trouble!
After a 4 day wait the pump arrived
Unfortunately my cruiser does not have a 100 series engine!
It seems to have a 80 or 90 series engine.
My pump has a pulley,the 100 series is timing belt driven.
So i will keep you lot posted 😉

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the 2uz water pump have a pulley as well? Not sure how else the pump would be driven.

You have a 2UZ engine, which is the typical engine for a gasoline powered 100 series. I highly suggest looking through these forums a bit and watching the video posted above for more information regarding water pump/timing belt replacement. There are a ton of posts regarding replacement of the water pump and timing belt.
