If it helps, the Toyota part number for the '89 24V 13BT rectifier is: 27357-56310 or 27357-64060 (replacement).

If you pound each of those numbers in one at a time here, you'll see what they cross to. Might broaden your options as to what you might be able to scavenge parts from: ToyoDIY.com For example it does seem to cross to 24V HJ60/HJ61.

They are available new; but very pricey!! Best price I could find is $250CAD.

Perhaps, but it seems like there have been a few reports of fairly new aftermarket cylinders going bad. I just mention it 'cause people tend to believe that something new can't go bad... But I'm happy to agree it's not super likely- just seems like the symptoms sound a lot like a master...

UPDATE #1: 24V ALTERNATOR

Thanks EVERYONE for the support! All of which I may end up taking you up on if/when necessary.

At this point I've got the rebuild guy talking with John (RADD) about diode replacement parts potential. John's also looking into full replacement units through his connections.

The rebuilder knows a shop in Vancouver who may be able to rebuild the diode pack but it's labour intensive (likely about $7 in parts and $400 in labour!).

Failing any of the above, I would begin to work from cheapest solution to most expensive.

@Diesel Cruiserman, my rig is not yet insured so the need to get it running isn't immediate, so I'll keep your offer as last resort as I'd hate to borrow someone's backup and then somehow mess it up and have two useless unobtanium alternators on my workbench! Hate to put a buddy out, but it may come to it at last resort.

@seapotato, would appreciate the effort to see if you've got one you could let go and wouldn't need.

@cruiserpilot and @GTSSportCoupe, thanks for the experience and part number/supplier tips...these may be my first attempts as they're likely the cheapest as well.

Really appreciate the support here folks. I love this rig but stuff like this is frustrating. Would be nice to one day have the funds to have spare parts kicking around...if one can even find them!

Rest assured if I find a reasonably priced solution you'll all be the first to know :)
 
Did you take the old alternator apart? I’m wondering if the internals have actual part numbers on
them that you might be able to cross reference with parts in the domestic side. Look into
HINO industrial as well, as they are a division of Toyota and might very well have 24V industrial
applications, such as Toyota Fork Lifts etc. Keep us posted

I highly recommend calling Brian Roberts Auto Electric in Victoria. They have tons of parts on hand, know their stuff well, and are familiar with diesel landcruiser alternators. They might make your task a lot easier. Rebuild of my alternator w/ vacuum pump was $300 to give you an idea. That with new stator, rectifier, brushes, bearings, etc.

Regarding changing the diodes, I may be able to do that for you if that's what it comes down to. Looking at some pics on the web, it looks like some diodes are very easy to get at, and some not. Would need to see your rectifier to know. Electronics is my thing....so I could spec good ones and do a good job replacing them....free except for parts cost.

Found another helpful thread when googling; has a bunch of denso part numbers in it for 24V rectifiers. 2h alternator sourcing help!

Confirm 12V or 24V On that eBay site. Seems to me to be 12V, way at the bottom.
Would a Canadian 24V BJ70 alternator work and/or be available?

Yeah, I think you're right. Looks to be 12V not 24V. Was a link from the 2h alternator thread I posted above...

Come on guys, this is the third? time this truck has been up for sale in different ads.
Cancerous is an understatement. If the owner wants to sell it, then realize it's gonna take
full rear quarters, full rockers, and more.
 
I would go to victoria for any electrical work and from past experience the same holds true for engine machine shops in Nanaimo .
 
Ok, because I dragged these out front for some knob who despite the ad repeatedly saying they were 15" rims, thought they'd be 16...and I really don't want to drag them back.

So, 4 15x10's, 2 half decent 35's ( old for sure tho) and two s*** 35's. The s***ty ones are on the rims otherwise I'd have chucked them.

$100 or trade for something cool. Like enough beer that I don't have to leave the house for a couple weeks. :lol:

Oh how I love my BJ60 but trying to find electrical parts is a royal PITA. So nice to be driving a 2nd gen cummings where parts are cheap and available within 24 hours.

You seem to have been through a few bj60's. Maybe you should have saved some parts for the future? Cummings is Burton's last name. What exactly are you looking for for electrical parts? Lamenting on here about how scarce cruiser parts are now here on the island is the fault of members of members in this club. Maybe you should think about why it is easier to find stuff for our trucks in Texas than it is here. I have quite a lot of various parts for 60's and 40's but I am reluctant to sell them to anyone around here who is just going to build up a truck to sell it to the US. The short term gain that a few have garnered will cost all of us as cruiser heads around here for many years to come. It will get harder and harder in the years to come due to the opportunistic greed of these members.

I don't think cruisediesel is one who has sold or will sell anything to the south. 'mericans are looking for clean stuff. Most of the things we have in this club have been used/abused to the point no american would want it. :rofl: They're into JDM imports now anyhow....
