Is it just my rig, or do any of you guys experience the heat inside the cab by drivers side gas pedal and passenger side floor board? I mean it's super hot! I recently installed headers and did not ceramic coat them. Could this be the cause?:confused: I would like to install Vintage Air before the summer is over but a little reluctant, do to the heat in the cab! Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ready

Pretty much normal depending on how close your exhaust is run to the floorboard. May need to wrap the exhuast with some header wrap and place some heat reflective material (dynomat, etc) on the inside to help keep the heat down.

X2! Pertty hot on da slipa feet. Take the top off. It's summer. buy some time to figure out which solution is best for you

I have two piece headers on my rig and experience the same issue with the cab being hot. I roll down the windows and open the kick-vents to try to keep cool. Vintage air does sound like a good option.

headers for sure.

I did a bit of research on that tape and more times than not, people regretted using it as the headers/pipes will rust under it in time.

I made (cut to fit) my own floor mats out of that compressed foamish material that you put on the floor of your shop that you stand on at the work bench to keep fatigue down. Then covered that in rubber (that was more for traction & look than added insulation). The compressed material works awesome.. perfect. And I live in an area where we wear sandals all the time.

I've big hooker style headers and the mufflers run under my floor boards.......my 40 gets pretty hot too. Don't worry, you aren't alone!

Nice and cozy inside my cab in the humid and sunny south. My top does not have the vents in the rear either....so no blow through 55mph AC. :crybaby: I just take the doors off when I can and open all the vents I have.

Cant wait to get a cage and bikini top for the hot months.

I have the same issues in mine. I believe the cat and transmission are my main sources of the heat. It gets almost unbearable on a 4+ hour drive when it is over 80 degrees. I am about to make it worse by installing a header as well. I just bought some double foil faced insulation from Summit that I am going to try under the floor mat once I get it up and running. I am also going to investigate some kind of additional heat shields that can go outside the cab, to the source of the problem. If I come up with anything good, I will post.

A body lift puts a air gap between the heat source and the floor. Flow through ventilation.

My FJ40 was a bakeoven until I installed an inline shutoff valve in the heater hose. Now I can stop the hot water flow to both the dash and rear heaters. Significantly lower the temp.

Some early FJ40 engines have a manual valve for this on the engine. Mine did. When a V-8 was swapped in, the lack of this valve was overlooked.

I installed the foil-backed insulation and "Aussie" floor mats that CCOT sells (or sold) in mine and it made a BIG difference. I have headers and the exhaust pipe runs right under the driver's floor, so it got really hot in there. Eventually I plan to re-do the exhaust system and run it outside the frame (like I think it was originally) to get the source further to the outside of the cab.

I also bought some doors from Australia that have vent windows, so I should be cooler in the future...

I also have the heat problem, make sure the heater vents are closed also i noticed this past weekend i'm getting alot of heat from around the shifter boot on the floor board, make sure you have a good seal around that boot and kick those vents open ...

Enjoy the ride ...

Welcome to the club. ;p

( Sorry of the hi-jack) Just bought a 1977 90% restored 40 for my wife which she will be unwrapping at 1730 on the 14th as a surprise 30th B-day pres. As on of my asteamed coleges stated up top about moving the pipe to the frame to reduce heat, HAs anyone done this and do you have pics? I'm in Afghanistan and won't be there for the unvailing. I hope she likes it.
Thanks,
Chris

you will have the same problem with the exaugst run on the out side of the frame thats how mine is and the cat sits right under me, very hot in there. i am going to try some heat reflective shield on the under side of the tub.
