Nice install tutorial. Thanks.

Can anyone compare/contrast this SL3B unit to the GROM BT3?

Great write up, I like this but did you loose your cd / dvd player?

Good question - my truck is not in my possession right now but when I get it back I'll check and follow up with an answer for you.
thanks

I just called VAIS and they said it all should work. I assume you push the DVD button twice to activate the connection? The MML-T1 is the same unit but plays through the cord and charges at the same time...I think thats the one I am going to go with.

Cool hope you enjoy it.
Thanks

After selling my LX450 we are going to pick up a new to us LX570 this week. It's an 09 and I'm looking at options for streaming/charging the iPhone and the VAIS unit looks promising. I assume this would work on the LX? Install would be similar save for the different dash pieces? Anybody done this?

Thanks for the great write up Willy!

Does this improve bluetooth phone quality at all? I am not happy with the clarity of phone calls using my stock bluetooth adapter.

@justin8818 Yes, I have the VaisTech on my 08 LX and it works great for BT streaming. Just be sure to follow the directions to set dip switches etc and confirm it has initialized correctly before putting the dash back together. Ask me how I know. :poof:

I also have their ULM-51 override module for being able to do nav entry and dvd's in motion but I haven't found it to be all that particularly useful or well executed. It will throw off the Nav GPS signal for a bit and that is a bit inconvenient when you are wanting to enter addresses on the fly. Perhaps it's operator error as I haven't really sat down and scrutinized it thoroughly.

Also I bought a set of trim removal tools from Amazon that was money well spent. I've used them on a few different things on various vehicles.

Its crucial. Enjoy!

Fantastic thread and install instructions... knocked it out in under an hour and it rocks jamming to Bluetooth tunes!

One question, I'm not supposed to have any text message capability correct? The last step of the instructions had me wondering. Thanks again for a great thread!

Good question - I see what you mean - I should have worded that differently - text of songs and artist is what populates on the screen. I'll have to check on the phone text deal though - that would be cool. I'm glad it worked out for you - thanks for the reply

I can't speak to the BT3, but I am using the GROM USB3. Functionally it does what I expected. Charges my phone and gives me steering wheel control of audio. I didn't go with a BT unit because I use the stock BT Phone controls constantly while driving and didn't want to mess with that.

Here are a couple observations of the USB3:
Audio quality is excellent, however there is a little less bass vs using a 3.5mm cable from my phone to the AUX input
If you dock the phone (Plug the lightning cable in) while the Nav unit is booting, it will cause the NAV unit to lockup. If you plug it in prior or after boot up it is just fine.

LOL, I like your approach to this type of work. I think I'm going to go grab a bottle of Makers Mark for my windshield wiper changeout.

I guess I'm the first one to use the BT45 here. I had it on my 100 series. When it was totaled, I pulled it out and installed it on my 200.
I decided to mount it on the nav. This allows me to access to the emulation mode switches just by removing the top speaker panel.
I couldn't get the music text to show up on CD emulation. it just said "No Text". So I decided to set it to the "MP3" emulation mode, which maps to the AUX mode in my 2008 USDM LC. DVD does show the song titles but it was a pain to switch back to DVD when you change the modes to FM/SAT/AM. It just kept saying "No Disc" and won't switch back to the DVD mode. I had to turn the car off and back on. So I wouldn't recommend the DVD emulation mode on the BT45.
The steering wheel controls were able to change the music on pandora and spotify just fine on my iPhone.

UPDATE: after a long trip with simulation mode on "mp3" I noticed that the CD drive was running the whole trip, searching for a disc. it was kind of annoying. So I switched it to the CD (default) emulation mode and it went away. Just a lil heads up.

Today my steering wheel control for up down song list quit working along with the skip buttons on below the head unit. The volume is fine. Tried turning off the following in different sequence:
Bluetooth off / stereo off - then cycled both back on
Car off /Bluetooth off / stereo off
and it worked for one song skip and then failed again
Anyone else running this specific system that has experienced this before let me know your remedy, if you found one.
Thanks
