I am using a pair of 60 axles in my 1970 project and am using the rear drum parking brake as I found that to be a good solution when putting in the longer 5 speed transmission. I have the cable and am starting to think about routing.

Seems like the easy solution is mounting the 60 handle on the trans tunnel. But I am trying to keep as many original features as possible and like the idea of the dash pull handle. I had seen it, or seen it referenced once before and wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to get that done. I seem to recall it involved linking the two with a lever on the chassis.

Of course, I am always open to being told the reasons to not do this. Thanks!

Here’s what I did, I made a bracket to support the cable and hand brake on the transmission tunnel. Its close to the heater but is totally useable. I had previously swapped in axles from an 81, I now have a fully float rear axle and continued to use this set up.

I am working on solving this exact problem on my FJ40 . I am in the process of adding later model drums with integrated park brake to my rear axle using adapters from @cruisermatt . My plan so far is to use a bellcrank and other bits from a 96-2004 Tacoma (model RZN161L-TRMDKAB). The piece I am missing is the cable that will go from the dash pull handle to the bell crank. The current cable that goes to the transfer case park brake will not work because the end will not work with the bellcrank. I either need to find a way to modify the cable end or get a different cable.

Here is the parts diagram.

Maybe we can make an adapter piece? It would be really nice to use the stock 40 cable.

That would definitely be preferable.

On thing that came to mind was cutting the end of the 40 cable off and crimping the appropriate size eyelet onto the cable which could then connect to the bell crank with a pin.
Something like this
