Update...Metal power seat gears

I'm actually surprised you made a response like that.

If we are going to be like that, maybe we should point out that Toyota didn't send out 1FZ's with turbos from the factory because they never designed the top ends of them to handle the higher combustion pressures while were at it, but the rest of us can learn from others blown engines? But that wouldn't be very supportive of me...

Sure but a turbo isn’t a seat gear. Knowing what I know about this stuff I understand very well why they used the substrate they did.

Update on the gears. Received them few days back, tried installing this morning. The quality looks great, they fit in the housing nice also. The inner diameter is too small to fit over the drive shaft though. They would have to be hammered on and likely never come off. Emailed and requested a refund. Too bad, looked like a good alternative. Hope this helps.

Interesting. I can tell you that the OEM and replacement gears are also VERY tight. They need to be pressed onto the shaft. Did you do any measuring to try and determine just how undersized they actually were?

No, the factory gears slid right over with zero resistance. I took the second gear which was not installed yet and tried to fit in on, it got started but would require hammering down. Just seemed extra tight.

I suppose i could hammer it down with the housing cover pre installed.

No reason to force it on. If it slid on i would have given it a go. Too big of a risk breaking the housing pressing it on the shaft. Hopefully a refund coming.

some good quality delrin would be nice. If they aren't already.

They need to be pressed onto the shaft
Just to keep things clear for those members who haven't done this job yet. The plastic replacement gear needs to be pressed onto a small removable splined hub. Here's a link to Gamiviti gear installation instructions in case anybody has any questions.

As far as it'll go with forcing.View attachment 1856673
Seeing as that "Made In China" gear wouldn't even slide onto the splines of the drive shaft. That would worry me that the dimensions on their seat gear that's supposed to run against the Toyota seat gear may be way off too.

Correct. The gears did fit on the spline after being hammered down using a 15mm deep socket, i took it back off though. Just took more force than i felt comfortable with. In order to get the assembly back together correctly you would need to install the gear assembly cover on first, drive the gear on to the spline, then reassemble. Without a doubt I'm sure this would break the cover.

Why not just swap the seats all together? They aren’t great to begin with and weights a metric ton!
Do they, little awkward doing by yourself. Have a friend help so you don't scratch up your console .

For now I've stole the good gear from the passenger side. Driver side works good for now. Wife happy.

What? Delrin?

Delrin is a brand name for "Polyoxymethylene (POM), also known as acetal, polyacetal, and polyformaldehyde" (source wikipedia) which is commonly used to make gears because it is naturally slippery and very durable (not brittle). The downside of Delrin is that tap water ruins it because of the trace chlorine found in it. So you would never want to wash Delrin gears in water.

I am curious if there was a way to make an overmold and pour some two part urethane replacement gears using the shafts of failed gears.

Also...just a shot in the dark.

if the clearances weren't too tight you could try freezing the shaft and warming up the gear. This would make the metal shaft smaller in diameter by a few ticks and the gear larger. This is how I've pressed in wheel bearings on my Camry before.

However, in my FMEA I would assume that putting a metal gear here would only move the failure point further up or down the mechanism.

Yes they weight a crap ton and not that comfortable really. Many people have installed other seats, I personally just swapped to manual seats.

Because if I simply broke my finger I wouldn't go out shopping for a prosthetic arm

And why not?!?:hillbilly:

All kidding aside just get the gear from @NLXTACY or witsend and call it a day. Tried and true.....or muck around with some no QC made in China stuff for days and then order from witsend. It’s a free country and your own hair.
