We do more for each other and know each other better than most of our neighbors. Thanks for everything.

In fact, I do know you, Doug, Junk, and many others better than I know my next door neighbors. We wave and exchange pleasantrys every few months but I don't know where he works or what his hobbies are. I still can't remeber his name and he and his gf moved in about 3 years ago.

Slight tangent here.... have you tallied up your hospital, ER, diagnostic, therapist, and doctor bills lately. I've been in the healthcare field for many years and, intuitively, I knew the prices were escalating. Due to some recent health issues I have been looking over the costs of accessing healthcare and it is shocking. I had no idea that one simple 10 minute CAT scan could cost over $5,000.

Thank God we went with my wife's health plan and selected the high-end option. We would be filing for bankruptcy with my company's plan.

<<<and many others>>>
I hope I an an others!!! :)
I get upset about paying $82 a week for full family coverage. But one tirp to the e-room will cost well over the $82.

I tried to explain that we do know each other, even though we mostly just talk about Landcruisers. She still didn't get it.

It's hard to explain these bonds to someone who hasn't been part of a cyber community. Special friendships indeed....

Mend well Scott.

It is remarkable to me how often something parked by the side of the road is hit. If you pull over to fix something, it seems you can never be too far from the road. I think there is a tendency for drivers to perceive reflectors ahead as the direction of the road, especially in badly lighted and llightly traveled roadways. Maybe this was one of those cases. Obviously the crane was unsafely close to the road

In any case, the damage is truly remarkable, and thanks are indeed due to God.

And let's not forget about the reckless cell phone use and fooling with radio, on-board computers, DVD systems, driving too fast, eating/drinking coffee and generally not paying close enough attention while driving. After all, it's not like there's a giant magnetic force field pulling ususpecting vehicles towards the steel shoals. I'm truly surprised we don't see more accidents like this.

Here in the Los Angeles area, they do all those things simultaneously...

H2? A dump truck would be much more practical and fun to own! What time are you coming by? I think my boys would enjoy seeing your truck. My wife is very cautious about people I've met on the internet, people who drive trucks, people who sit and chat about autos on the internet, well, pretty much everyone she hasn't done a background check on. I'll PM you with phone #, address, directions, whatever.

You may find me elbow deep in rear axle, my wife's truck made an ominous sound tonight, and it's overdue.

When the cranberry truck pulls up she will really freak out......

Great to hear your up and running. A quick thanks to Toyota for a wonderful product.
Years ago I was looking at Volvo's for the wife. In their showroom was a huge board full of pictures customers who had wrecked their Volvo's. Very impressive. The worst I saw was an 850 that had been stopped in commute traffic when it was rear ended at an estimated 80mph. The driver a physician was transported to the hospital but walked out a few hours later with minor cuts, and bruises.

I've seen alot of auto accidents and fatalities. Even a few that succommed to fire. Those are the worst cause I didn't see one that wasn't greousom. Spend the extra cash and buy a quality vehicle and accessories, ie. Landcruiser ARB, Kaymar etc... It just might save your life...............

Scott, Glad you're o.k. and able to spend some quality time with your family. I spent 9 months away from mine for work, and know the feeling that I've been missing out on a lot. Shoot me a p.m. if you ever need a hand on a big job with the 80. I live in Holland, am also an engineer, know how to use a wrench, and need to learn the nuances of the 80. I would be very willing to lend a hand in exchange for the learning experience.

Just finished reading this thread. I was in Moab last week and have been trying to catch up at work this week and hadn't seen it before. Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. Hope that you are back to boring holes in the sky soon!

Also, thanks to Doug for a great writeup!

There were a couple of comments about vehicles being hit on the side of the road. In Search & Rescue classes I attended a few years ago, they recommended that if you had to pull off the road during times of reduced visibilty (fog, rain, snow, smoke, etc), it was safer to turn off all lights, so that other drivers wouldn't follow your vehicle and rear end you.

Bob

I too was at Moab for the last two weeks and read this thread from stem to stern with the wife on a lazy Sunday morning. We were both in awe of the awesome destruction to the vehicle and glad to hear that Scott is doing ok. As usual, Doug's abiilty to describe events is superb. If only I could write that well!

This thread surely gave us pause. We travel quite extensively with our two dogs (Ronan and Riley) and a bunch of camping gear. If that accident happened to us I don't know if any of us would've survived. Last week when I was at Slee's, I looked at the Milford barrier quite seriously. I would almost need to have two of these things: one behind the front row to protect us from the boys (Ronan is a 100+ lb Rotty) and one more to protect the boys from the camping gear. Sorry for the slight hijack.

The next time we swing through Holland, we'll say howdy!

Cheers,

Ali
(need to unpack the truck!)

I stopped with my semi full of cranberries if front of Scott's house. I hope I didn't scare the neighbors and Scott's family toooo much ;)
Scott is doing well, except for a slight limp, you wouldn't know he had a bone sticking out his leg
I had a good time chating with him and had a  ...root  that is. I don't think the MI DOT would like me drinking  and driving a semi full of cranberries

So who is next on the list to have a visit from The Landtoy?
and yes, I like my prime rib m.r. :princess:
