Why not leave all the cutouts as blanks. Guys could cut them as needed?

By cutouts I'm mainly talking about the shifters

I supposed it's because of the plug and play philosophy. Personally I've always disliked some of the vendors selling you a big piece of rubber for ton of money and then expecting you to do all kinds of tailor work on it. If you make one wrong cut, you're going to regret it. Also, having a machine cut those shifter holes, it will look a lot cleaner.

However, I understand where you're going. Some of the early trucks with 3 on the tree don't need those shifter holes, right?

Plus some of us gave V8's and the shifter is in the wrong spot :hillbilly:

It's still early in the game, so anything is possible. Cutouts would be the default (that's you'd get from Toyota), but it should be feasible to not make the shifter cutouts on say, 10% of the floor mats for those with different requirements.

However, I don't know if the 1974 to 1978 template would fit earlier years. Specifically, I'm not sure if the floor contours are all the same, and whether the various cutouts around the periphery (pointed to by red arrows in my pic) match up to the interior of those earlier trucks.

The floor mat would fit the early cruisers fairly well. You're right though, they would need to be cut short to fit the tool box.

I'm down for a floor mat. What's the timeline? And you did say it WILL have the Toyota logo correct?

Yes, see attached file (courtesy of SOR). This was only used from '72 through the early '74 FJ40s with 3-speed transmissions and floor shifters.

To digress back to an earlier "Unobtainium" suggestion, last October I suggested the rubber outer boot for the 3-speed floor shifter (which has been NLA for years now and rarely comes up available used). I've been looking for one for 4 years now. But, I realize the interest level may be too low since they were only used for about 2 1/2 years. My earlier posts (see quote above) and picture of the item are near the beginning of this thread.

Another suggestion is the plastic door plugs (one on the inside of each door of the early all metal front doors). Someone else was supposedly about to offer these last fall (see https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/replacement-door-plugs.818958/), but seems to have fallen by the wayside.

Finally, the white plastic fuse panel covers for early to mid FJ40s. These have been selling (usually in poor condition) for upwards of $80 on eBay recently.

Thanks for the consideration.

Early box covers? That would be cool... does anyone know if you can still get the color coded fuses?

Let me know if I'm missing something. the 3 speed shift boot lists for under $10 on ToyotaPartsDeal, part # 33555-55010. It looks a little different, but is supposed to fit.

As for the fuse box cover, you'll have to settle for getting a new fuse box with the cover, for $60. It'll be out in a few days.

That's the INNER boot for the 3 speed, which Toyota still makes/sells. I'm talking about the outer boot, which hasn't been manufactured for years now.

Thanks.

Thanks, I didn't see that offering in your thread. You might consider selling the cover separately. The fuse panel cover on most 40s disappeared long ago; the fuse panel itself, not so much.

It's probably not going to happen, but never say never...
The most difficult cases are items limited to a couple of years or small grommets that a few people need. Technically it's not a problem, but the fixed tooling cost makes it cost prohibitive.
