Believe it or not my new boat is actually going to have a touch of FJ40 in it.

I am using the Metal Tech gauge plate for my instrument panel. It is going to house the 3.5" OMC tach/systems gauge in one, and a Teleflex GPS speedo in the other. I am going to get the LED light kit from MT and use the blue to indicate when the running lights are on.

I will have dual fingertip trim on the wheel kind of like blinkers. One will control the jack plate up/down, and the other will control the motor trim up/down. I am going to wire it up so that the green LED's on the gauge light up when each side is activated, that way I know when I have pushed the lever far enough to activate the operation.

You can judge me all you want. I live around some of the best waters in the country instead of mountains, so I sold my 40 and got a new boat.:grinpimp:

Jeremy

Does your boat have A/C? :D

I'm not judging anyone. Just making an observation. It's your cruiser, your life, your money. You can do whatever you want with it.

It's kind of amusing seeing people who think they fit the bill coming out and defending their actions.

I will not defend any of my actions!!!

had i have known the 40 would blow a motor....i would not have traded!!!

I suck!!!!

Yeah when I am running 55 mph it feels nice. I wasn't talking about Lake Murray, that thing is a bath tub. I was talking about:

Cape Romain, Bulls Bay, Little River Inlet, Edisto, Fripp, Hunting, etc.

I believe you sold a 40 at one time as well, and a 55. Hell selling a 55 is a crime in itself. 40's are a dime a dozen, but a 55, come on.

First 40 I ever bought, I had the exact same thing happen to it..... about 2 weeks after I got it the motor took a dump. At the time I was so pissed; I just wanted to get rid of it. In the end though it turned out to be a blessing in disguish as I was a poor college kid at the time so I had to do all the the work myself. But I had ZERO mechanical skills..... this was pre- Ih8mud or UC so I had a good ole Chiltons manual to get me through my first engine swap. It was a great experience and really got me obessed with cruisers, and there has been no looking back.

I know your situation sucks, but just imagine how much it worse it would be with out the resources and knowledge of Ih8mud and UC.

The 55 was sold because I needed the money and to be honest it needed someone that would restore it. My first 40 I sold was a huge mistake. Huge. I have regretted that decision ever since.

Funny thing is I have sold 3 of mine and I haven't regreted one yet... but I am not the sentimental type, plus when I sell one it just opens up a opportunity for the next build :grinpimp:

The only cruiser I think I can say I will 100% NEVER sell will be the FJ45LV my dad and I are restoring... that thing means more to me than anything:beer:

If i was single...or didn't have kids...it wouldn't be such an issue

I've got mechanical know how to do just about anything to....well...anything.

It's a pain in my ass because i hate to work on EVERYTHING!!!!

I'd rather be doing the finishing touches on my sailboat bottom coat and then sitting out on hartwell running my rigging and drinking some cold ones while my kid plays in the sand.

Got to love free fire extinguishers.

You should really use halon in the cruiser... Ask Todd, he was still cleaning the mess out of that red '72 until hr sold it...

All this talk about selling 40's has got me thinking... hmmmm :meh:

Tempting! Probably going to end up getting Kristen an old 4runner or Highlander next spring instead. She CAN drive a stick, but I know she'd rather not!

I'm fortunate that both my cruisers are paid for....I can't come to a good reason of why I would sell one....yes I may have to put some money into it to keep them up but that's maintenance.....If I wanted to buy a new car I'd have to finance it and I can buy a lot of gas and parts for what it.would cost to finance.....Y'all talk about having assets, one asset I have is my 40 and 60.....not for money purposes but knowing that if the s*** does hit the fan I've got 2 vehicles I can rely on. I was talkin with Marshall the other night and all I've got to do is a knuckle rebuild and replace my oil pan gasket....that along with the recent tranny swap and my 60 will last another 25 years.....then I can fine tune the 40 carb and the 40 will be good to go.....knowing that I have a great vehicle is all the reason I need.

Chuck, I'd like to help with your knuckle rebuild but I can only make it Aug. I'd like to get down there and hang with yall before summer is over. Let me know.

i need to do a knuckle rebuild to.

I've already done too many of these!!!!

I think that once my shop slows down during the winter i'm going to start rebuilding knuckles lol

The guy in the shop next to me already specializes on carb rebuilds/tunes as well as AC

Are either diesel? Cause if the manure hits the rotating bladed appliance, gasoline will be in short supply, but diesel you can make... Fodder for a 3B or 12H swap...Or grab a 2 stroke dirt bike and call it done!

Okay I am going to jump right in on this "why are so many people selling their cruisers" conversation... my basis for selling is this:
I have not driven the 40 in about 10 years... maybe 3 miles on the farm, so why have it?
the 60 I bought to give to my gf, that is now my ex, and I do not need this many cars...
I bought the 81 60 for the motor to put into the 55, and since I have gotten separated I no longer have the space to work on it...

the 62... ive had it for 11 years and want something else, just bored with it..

I will probably never be totally cruiserless, but times change, I no longer have a 3k sq ft barn or 50 acres.. ya know how hard it is to rent a house with 6 cars, a boat a 4 wheeler, a canoe, all the stuff I have listed for sale (and more) 3 dogs, a horse and a donkey?

My life has changed significantly in the last year and is headed towards more changes, when I get settled I'll be back better than ever and will be able to actually attend a few meetings...but for now it is something I feel I need to do, want to do and will feel less encumbered if I can move without having to rent a tow truck for a whole day...and a horse trailer/truck, and a flat bed trailer (big enough for my tractor) and a forklift etc... moving across town should not take 7 days AFTER everything is packed...
