I noticed a few FJ's shown have places for straps to attach too. Is this a factory option? if so will a FJ without these still be able to use a top?

These guys haven't been on MUD in a month. I'm guessing this venture is finished even before it started. :frown:

i think toyota put a hex on factory soft top replicas... none can seem to get to the USA.. at least without a 6-10 month wait time.. o well:cheers:

Jeez,
Guys they have orders that they have in the shop that they are working on now, including mine. All from folks on mud. All have paid 1/2 down on. I have received two updates from softopguy thus far on his progress. To cut to the chase, his shop is full and they aren't here online talking, they are in the shop working. Before I ordered and sent these guys money I went back to the U.S. and met highlandcruzer and his wife, had lunch with them and talked cruisers and business. Both highlandcruzer and softopguy are regular family guys, running businesses each on their own. This is a new venture and as far as I can see they are the only guys in the U.S. who have gotten this far. This is the first factory run. They are still working on rolling these out in an efficient and quality way. I try not to ping them every five minutes for updates like my kids did to me on road trips when they were little,"are we there yet." My top will be ready when its ready and from what I have seen it will be great. To me one of the best indicators of trustworthiness is what do the folks who see them often and know them say. The guys in their local chapters have been lending them bows and OEM canvas soft tops for measurements and fittings. They are working with them. So am I. I'm not business affiliated just liked what I saw and put my .02 where my mouth was. Just my .02 (plus 1/2 down deposit:grinpimp:)

I have to vouch for highlandcruzer, he's top notch. He also makes some mean grilled deer! I will order my soft top from him, especially since softopguy is just a 15 minute drive from my house.....

Just got an email from Travis today. They are still in business, but got slammed with orders and not enough knowledgable personnel.

I guess now they know how Ehsan feels, and why the tops can't be cranked out as fast as everyone would like.

I thought I might share this with MUD, not knowing who originally signed up for the tops.

Sounds like sad news for both sides, although I must say I don't like hearing about anyones misfortune when it comes to health issues.

I wish Travis well, I feel he entered this deal with the best of intentions, my thoughts go out to him and his family. This is the e-mail I recieved today.

Hello Sean,

I sincerely apologize for Travis not being able to get back to you most recently. This email comes with very sad news. We have a health crisis going on with Travis right now. He's actually not been able to work at all on any soft tops for a little while. We've tried desperately to hire someone to make the tops for us, but have been completely unsuccessful. We have tried everything in our power to get, at the very least, your soft top completed, but have been unable to do so. Therefore, very regretfully, we've had to cancel indefinitely making any more soft tops. We've even had to close our business. Since we cannot finish your soft top, we have refunded your money back into your PayPal account. Thank you so much for sending us your order. We know how very excited you were in anticipating the arrival of your finished soft top. We are extremely sorry that not only have you waited for a completed top, but, that we also cannot continue on with this venture! Not only did you all in the forum look forward to this, but so did we. Please except our deepest regret.

Sincerely,

Kim (Travis' wife)

that is very sad news for Travis "softtopguy", I pray that all will work out with his health. Their attempt at getting this project done was from the heart more so than the pocket.

I will keep Travis in my prayers till his recovery is complete and he and Scott's attempt at getting this progect done will be on heart forever.

Thank You Travis and Scott "Highlandcruzer" for trying to make this work....but....now just get well.

Scott Please PM me when Travis makes some good progress.

Yes, get well, very unfortunate, it is like bad karma, these soft tops. Sounds serious I guess, not knowing any details. I hope the venture can continue at a later date, Scott and Travis seemed to be making a very nice product. Best of luck for both of you, I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I just got the email from Kim. Travis, Godspeed on a quick recovery. Health and family first, everything else will work itself out in time. I would also like to thank you both for the gracious and upstanding way that you guys tried to get the product out and when that just wasn't possible, have handled getting everyone's deposits back. You guys are stand-up folks and I look forward to doing business with you anytime. Get well and stay safe.

Yes, that is very unfortunate. I hate to hear that anyone that young isn't doing well. It's also sad that they had such a quality looking product that won't be made anymore. Especially since I know for a fact that reproduction bows are right around the corner. Did anyone receive one, or was there only one prototype?

Can Back Tops

I emailed Can Back through their site to see if they could produce an OEM style FJ40 top. Guy got back to me right away and let me know that they might consider one this next Spring...they have some great tops made out of Sumbrella material. They are about to do old Bronco tops so the 40 seems like a no brainer since the vehicles were made for so many years and there is a solid demand for them. Check out their site www.can-back.com and let them know that you would be interested in one too. Also they design their bow systems to support 150lbs and integrate roof racks into their design....really cool.

Thank Johnny C! I've actually got an Eshan top coming this week but these Can-Back tops looks really nice and know a ton of people are looking for something similar. I think the ability to attach a rack to the soft top bows is a great feature. I was considering building a bumper/windshield mounted rack system for my truck but that combined with my Eshan bows and my full cage my rig would look like a spider web when the top was off. Just thought some of the people that were still looking for tops might be interested in contacting the Can-Back guys to let them know of the major interest out there for a 40 top.

I hope you have better luck with CanBack than I did. They've been promising a top for my '06 Dodge Megacab for over 2 years and still nothing. I even asked about a top for my FJ40 and nothing. They make a beautiful product but have changed hands and I'm not sure where they are on new products. Let me know if you have any luck.
