Thank Johnny C! I've actually got an Eshan top coming this week but these Can-Back tops looks really nice and know a ton of people are looking for something similar. I think the ability to attach a rack to the soft top bows is a great feature. I was considering building a bumper/windshield mounted rack system for my truck but that combined with my Eshan bows and my full cage my rig would look like a spider web when the top was off. Just thought some of the people that were still looking for tops might be interested in contacting the Can-Back guys to let them know of the major interest out there for a 40 top.
I contacted them via email and they got back to me in less than 24hrs apparently they have gotten a lot of questions about a 40 option. They said that they will hope to have something for us by spring 2009

Hate to rain on anyone's parade, and competition is a good thing, but reproduction bows are already headed to a US retailer of cruiser stuff. No idea on the price, but I would suspect that we will see them show up soon. Sorry, wish I could give more details on this, but it's not my place to name names right now.

I've been trolling here for quite awhile and keep hearing over and over next spring/next fall. Until they actually come to market it just looks like wishful thinking. I'm not really interested in making them, I'm just looking at possibilities. I don't see anyone making money off of these with what people are willing to pay, just more of an enjoyment of keeping our cruisers alive. I have odd small jobs in my shop that just cover labor but keeps my guys busy and with a steady paycheck. I'd rather take a short term loss then have to lay someone off.

reproduction bows were being made by Paul: "lomusass" here on MUD aka Heritage Sheet Metal Heritage Sheet Metal ....VERY good quality...they were going for $700? for galvanized steel....it was a limited run.

Paul makes some GREAT products.

IPOR is a large distributor of his products.

I would not be suprised if Paul is starting up the bow production again.

For those thaty don't know Paul...he's a stand up guy...with a small buisness in a big buisness world :)

If this is the one...its kinda not that much of a secret IMO

Well.....I thought it was a secret. But yeah, that's who made another production run of them.
My point in all of this, we should focus our efforts on finding another top, not the bows. Many have tried the bows and those are just more difficult than the tops. Since I know there is a supply of bows coming, let's get someone else to make the canvas! Everyone in the states that makes the tops drops out of it before all the orders are filled.

Good point. I should keep my mouth shut, because there are really only two companies in the us that sell reproduction 40 panels.....we wouldn't want anyone to figure out who that is by deduction.

You originally said "cruiser stuff" not panels. That could have been a number of different companies.

So are these Can-Back guys an option or not for the canvas?

I kinda read Calixto's post wrong...i thought when he talked to can-back...sounded like they were onboard.

It was just an idea..."hay maybe they can do it type thing".

I took him wrong....but....maybe if a local guy went down and showed them...they would be more interested.

Bows

SBoston "Anyone can make a canvas top, but as previously stated, the bows are next to impossible to make in a cost effective way. If you could get Ehsan bows fairly quickly, how much would you pay? $600...$800? " I would pay that for a OEM style and quality bow set.

I'm still looking for a top. The need is still here!

I'm a little confused though. Does the Paki top come with bows and if so when is the next group order. On the other hand, a US made package would be sweet.

Yes, the Pakistan tops come with complete bows for about $800 plus shipping. Hard to compete with that price. To produce these here in the states, they would likely need to sell for 3X that amount to cover costs.

And that would be what? $200-$300 to your door?

Jeremy

On a group order yes, on a stand alone order with shipping via DHL, it is about $520.00, which is a flat rate.

So is there going to be another group order or will future Paki tops all go through Canada via Immortal 4x4? I figure now is the time to order to have one for next summer.

Immortal 4x4? No one's heard from him for a few months.

I don't know about you, but the import duties from Pakistan are enough for me, I wouldn't want to pay duties again to import from Canada.

Double duties = higher prices. But I don't want to go throwing around that old thing called "logic".

Hot looking Soft Top

I really like that soft top.
very original looking.
I have 3 different soft top frames, best top, kayline and another.
i have been holding on to them for 10 years just in case i came a cross a used top with out the hardware.
I would be willing to help out with your experiment.
I couldn't find how much for the top.
anyways let m eknow if i can help.
Thanks.

Not to hijack Scott's thread and since production of this softop has stop, if anyone is interested I have a few soft tops for sale. PM only please.

Still have any available?

Production on these tops never really existed, there are a few possible prototype tops that were produced and distributed to 1 or two individuals but besides those, they are and will be obsolete from now on. I know this much because I was in on helping get this project started and my truck was used to make the prototypes.

Communication with the producer and his brother-in-law has been non existent.

Johnny-C have you heard from either one of them recently?

I was following this pretty closely in hopes of getting a top. What happened? I read something about health problems? It may be a private matter, but what went down?
