There was a split second today where I felt like Keanu Reeves. Saw a drop forming out of the corner of my eye and dodged it mid air before it hit my face.
this is what the interior of the transmission connectors SHOULD look like. I caught these just in time. The PHH (at least) was leaking onto them and they were starting to accumulate coolant crystals inside to match the ones on the outside.
After a very generous cleaning with my favorite connector cleaner (after I took this photo), and a little help from the air line, they are now clean as new.
FWIW, the S Blvd HD is now out of CRC contact cleaner. Sorry.
I wasn't going to do this, but after I broke the second knock sensor, and the connector housing crumbled in my hand, I decided to pull the remaining connectors off the transmission and O2 sensors (that took two cans of cleaner to defunk the connectors so that I could pull them without breaking them - they were gunk cemented in place) and pull the harness.
It will now be much easier to install new connectors and I now have the opportunity to clean it, inside and out. Hence the reason HD is now out of CRC contact cleaner.
I also have to replace some tape and corrugated wire wrap, so all will be shiny and new looking when I'm done.
this part covers the lead to the crank position sensor. Oddly enough, the only wraps that were deteriorated (that I've found so far) were under the intake manifolds.
Lesson learned: after breaking four sensors and two connector housings, I decided to thoroughly clean the NSS and O2 sensor connectors, and the other little one on the transmission, the function escapes me at the moment, using the last two cans of CRC I had on the shelf. I still had to use two screwdrivers and three hands to pull them apart, but I didn't break anything.
I highly recommend this method before attempting to remove the connectors on the intake side. Maybe this would have prevented the damage, maybe not given the crumbled cookie knock sensor connectors, but it sure wouldn't hurt.
Well,
Our '11 GX threw a P2714 code for transmission solenoid a couple of weeks ago. I changed the trans fluid to see if it would help and it did for a couple weeks but it came back (along with P0766, P0776 & P0983) and won't shift out of 3rd gear now...
Any transmission shop recommendations in the Raleigh area?
What is it about taking things apart that is so satisfying?
This is the "after" glamor shot; the "before" shot was too nasty for general audiences. Many thanks to @CruiseOrlando for his most excellent alternator refresh post!
I took 0.010 off the near end brush journal and 0.002 off the far end brush journal, just to clean them up. The brushes were down to the last 1/8" and the new ones are so much longer, I didn't think losing a couple of hairs' thickness would matter.

Dang man. The next time you pull off the shoulder onto a road while towing a broken Cruiser behind ya, you're gonna be able to launch that rear driveshaft into outer space!!!!
Seats in the F250 we're showing their age and developed a few tears. Of course the factory replacements were discontinued. Found a solution a few miles from my house. Turned out pretty awesome
