Finished this up on Tuesday.

Very stoked about how it came out!! Work surface height is about 45", so it's a little high, but I kinda like it! I'm thinking that having it high will help me keep the surface clean, but time will tell. I can always move the casters to the sides to lower the table down to about 40".

Little bit of black friday wrenching today on the lx450. Starter contacts and plunger, and reset the preload on the driver's front wheel. There was a slight amount of play.

The TC seems to be pulling the gear oil out of the tranny. About 2 years ago I bought a stainless hose that goes between the TC and Tranny fill plugs. Still, the Tranny runs low even with this mod, and there is oil all over the driveway. And on parking lots and highways across the southeastern states. If I don't refill the Tranny, eventually the gear oil will leak out and Tranny will run dry, so obviously I have to stay on it. How sustainable is this? Can I just keep filling it up or am I risking damage that I haven't thought about.

Yours is an odd one since without the link hose fluid should be going TC-to-Tranny. What comes to mind are a couple quick questions .....
Are you parking on an incline with the nose uphill?
Do you have a steeper than stock angle on your drivetrain?
Is tranny fluid coming out of the bell housing (i.e. front seal)?

To answer your question ..... yep, can keep filling it up forever.

Agreed, and when I disconnected the hose from the tranny, it drained from the TC, so I know it's not clogged.

No, the cement for the FJ40 parking spot was poured 2 years ago and is level.

No, the setup is all stock with the stock TC and Tranny.

Is tranny fluid coming out of the bell housing (i.e. front seal)?

It's moist, and Marshall mentioned that the rear main needs to be replaced, but the oil is coming out at the back.

To answer your question ..... yep, can keep filling it up forever.

Cool! Not cool for the environment, but at least I can keep taking the 40 on road trips.

Optimal work height; standing with your arms straight down, bend your elbow up to 90*, then lower your hands 10-15*, this is your work height for a bench top.

Did it do it before you installed the hose?

my experience on that trans t-case is little but same thing happened on a friends jimmy crawler. The seals between the two had both gone and was causing excess fluid in the T-case as well as a leak.

It did... I talked to Marshall about it. Sounds like the seal that goes between the TC and Tranny no longer exists, so the truck is going to make another trip to Trollhole next year after the Relic Run. I don't mind putting more fluid in, I just don't like that the TC is constantly overfilled.

it was a NV4500 on my friends rig..... Expensive fluid to constantly be putting in. Normally the seals when it happens.
it's actually a good story you should drop by and ill tell you about it over a beer..... I may or may not have some Pliny in the beer cave.

Did some lexus wrenching today

Steering wheel tilt motor never worked since i've owned it. If you are tall you would realize why that was #1 on the repair list. Even with the huge interior of the LS it still was a pain in my knee to drive for more than 35 minutes at a time.

Motor wasn't exactly cheap but the $250 was worth it.

Sorry for the crappy pics.

basically 3 screws to take the shaft cover off

then two allen key screws that hold the motor in (one was in there damn tight and I stripped it had to use vise grip pliers on it, new one is in mail to replace as I put the original back in finger tight)

another allen key screw in the bottom and it drops out.

But locking clip and bushings (orange things that I removed with hook and scribe) in the new one and reverse for installation. about 45 minutes (not counting down time for PB blaster to soak in) and now I have a ton more leg room for my 6"8 self.

The build and install is kinda one in the same. It comes in pieces and needs to be welded together, and then welded to the rear cross member. Stan has said he will help, but I recently(within the last couple days) found out I may have a little one on the way, so it may be a little while.
