My July 74 came stock with a single speed rear heater. The replacement one I've found uses a 4 ohm resistor to make it two speed. Does anyone know what year(s) had the two speed heater?

The housings look the same and I've made one working motor out of the two (parts are the same).

None as far as I am aware. My May 73 has a 2 position switch for the rear heater fan, but the motor only runs @ 1 speed.

I've seen other threads that confirm 2 speed was stock for some years, just curious which years.

My 74 fan came on with the high speed of the front fan.

Do you have one or two wires going into your rear heater? If two, then you likely need a new resistor.

my 67' heater fans were two speed but now blow fuses when turned on to low.

It sounds like the resistor is broken and shorted to ground. The rear resistor has a bolt running through the center that is connected to ground. I've never taken a close look at the front resistor.

Anyone else have a two-speed rear heater? If so, please state month and year of build.

My 9/72 has a two speed rear heater. Separate knobs for front and rear. Pull one click and it's low, all the way out and it's high. No temp control of course. It's hot or nothing.

My 4/73 has a 2 speed rear heater.

My '71 has a two speed rear heater. Works good.

NuGGerNaut 73 two speed

where exactly are the resistors?

The resistor mounts between two of the mounting screws for the fan motor (inside the heater). It's apx. 1 1/4" long and should be obvious if you pop the top off the heater.

Note: there is another across the top of the front heater motor also (for front fan).

If your motors may also need to be taken apart and have the bearing surface cleaned up and lubed if they haven't already seen some attention. (only take about 15 minutes)
