I have an opportunity to add a second fuel tank to the FJ40. I don’t want to add a second filler neck thru the body.

Is there a way, besides making a y-tube filler neck if that’s even feasible, that something like this is available?

i imagine, that with one or two of those little electrical fuel pumps and some valves you could make that happen. It might be slow but it's gas...
 
At first I used an electric fuel pump to move fuel from the front main tank to the rear aux. I used a beer can with sealant an a hose clamp to cap the fill neck on the aux. I had 2 selector valves, I don't remember but seems to me I could transfer fuel or drive. Once aux tank was full (20 minutes) I could run on either tank. It worked ok, but not as fast/convenient as just sticking the nozzle into the tank. I had both fillers on the same side.
 
With my limited thinking on transference of fuel and how it would have a continued supply to the main tank….i may need to admit, not possible for me. My F250 had two tanks back in the 1990’s. Cruising distance was near 750 miles…. Great for those 9 hour drives to Vermont we used to make… 1 tank did almost 3/4 of the entire trip

With the 40, both tanks are probably mounted at the same level so a gravity feed would not be a good idea fuel pump and valve is more of a sure thing.
 
80 series and 100 series have this option. The 80 series uses a valve and a handle to switch hoses. The 100 series has two holes you just angle the nozzle to the right tank to fill it. 100 series style seems more achievable.

Here's my story/nightmare with my 2006 LC and an LRA 24Aux...

This guy made one for a 60. Not sure how well it worked
 
Like many of you I've fought with installing a rear tank. It came down to how often I needed the extra fuel vs. the cost of doing the install and trouble. I decided not to go the extra tank but be able to carry the extra fuel when needed. This was my solution.
 
You can use an electric fuel pump as a transfer pump and eliminate the second filler pipe. I posted some details here.

Just throwing this problem out there because I'm sure someone probably has figured out a better way of doing this.

I have a 22 gallon con-ferr style aux tank in the rear of the FJ40 with the typical style of aftermarket filler neck that it comes with. Also have a pollack valve so I can draw from either one. The problem right now is the filler neck has to sit below than the wheel wells, which puts the cap only a few inches higher than the tank. Most of the time it's not a problem, but if I have a full tank and happen to be at an angle, or the gas starts expanding, fuel starts leaking...

It’s gone through some changes since I posted it, I may have documented it in another thread I don’t remember.

I’ve only heard of one person using a split “y” filler neck. I thought about doing something like that but I didn’t like the idea of cutting into the tub to route the fill tube out the back.

IMO the aux tank is one of the best mods I’ve done so far, I’d rank it up there with electric power steering.

@WarDamnEagle At this stage of the game, my 40 has not needed the 2nd tank…but…the opportunity has come up to get one….very reasonably too. I am also mostly caught up with the loads of project around the house. It will be something for me to stay busy working on something I really enjoy without the demands of brute strength, a paint brush, ladder or saw.

I thought about welding up a Y-fill pipe. My current new tank uses the in-tank electric fuel pump for the Sniper EFI and the most practical option, I think, is to pump fuel from the 2nd tank into the first with another switched electric pump. No, I really don’t need an extended fuel supply beyond just stopping less at the gas station.

If I can cosmetically conceal the filler neck and plumb the 2nd supply easily, I would buy the tank. The gentleman selling it has made me a great deal and even offers to meet me near a major city not far from my house. Shipping this is a bit prohibitive…all relative but prohibitive

This timeline however has a “time is of the essence” element so I am trying to accommodate both his needs and mine

I will say….stopping for fuel is no big deal but, my Silverado is a diesel and the “distance to empty” part on the dash will read 640-650 after a fill up…I kinda like that feeling…just another idiosyncrasy on my end
