Sweet, I was hoping more of us would stink the place up. I can't wait to see that ragtop you lucky sob :) If any of you all are going to be out there earlier I'll be in moab fri or sat and might be wheeling around hanksville and the roost area before that.

Do you have a link for the page on turbochargers.com for that specific turbo? I couldn't find it.

That Mitsubishi one you are referring to...is that the same D-50 one you spoke of earlier?

both on ebay and on turbochargers.com, I don't find any tc05, lot's of td05's though.

I dunno, maybe my brain is fried.

It's a dodge, but I think mitsu may have made the engine as it is diesel.

I'd be a little concerned that the turbo will be too small for the 3B as it's designed for a 2.3L diesel. If it was a 2.3L gas there would be no problem. Is the 2.3L Mitsubushi diesel a high reving diesel or is it the usual +/- 3000rpm red line? If the Mitsubushi diesel revs up to 4000 - 5000rpm then maybe all will be well.
The 2.2L gas turbo's work on the 3.4L 3B because the 2.2L gasser donors rev higher not because ANY 2.3L turbo is right for the 3B.
It's a factor of how much air passes through the turbo.
 
i have a little turbo on the mitsubishi Jeep 2.7 and that sucker hauls, i realise the 3.4 is a bit bigger but in the past i ran a 2.4 turbo on a 3.4 and around the city the engine just hauled... i never had it long enough to try it on the highway...

I had my 3B with the mitsubishi TC-05 Turbo up to 100mph today for a few seconds. Post Turbo pyro was at 800 degrees boost was at 13psi didnt seem to be restricted or anything by the Turbo.

100mph ... 160 km/h.... Wow. A Cruiser at this speed !!! Wow ! ... :)

Where do I hook into for oil flow into the turbo? And where should the exiting oil go to? Dieseldude, do you have an after pic that you can send me?

And fore you WESINTL give us some pics of the turbo on your 3B engine in your BJ70.
 
Here are some pictures that show where I ran my lines. The blue line is the return line it drains where the alternator vac pump drains and the steel braided line shows where my pressure input line is Tee-d off of the oil pressure sender. I still have a little clean up work to do on the intake, the oil on the top of the filter is just where I cracked the line to make sure it was draining properly.

is the return line have enough flow? the oil return is gravity fed and if the oil backs up then the bearings get starved of oil...
when i offered this a suggestion an earlier conversion i was told not to use that position for that exact fear... but if it working then that makes for a clean set up...

The bolt I made for the drain has huge holes in it and I used an oversized eye as well the silicon hose is no where near flat anywhere. But just curious where do some of you other guys run you drain lines to?
 
sounds like a good setup but you did use the same tapping into the block? or did you oversize it...
the reason i ask is i suspect that might be some of the reason for the vacumn pump failures might be from a oil return restriction...
i have no proof what so ever for this "feeling"... i have just seen a LOT of pump failures over the years and am curious if the splines are ripped off because of poor circulation...

please do not take this as a slam on your design i think it is a very clean setup, one of the best i have seen.
 
I see you still have the stock exhaust pipe in there. Did you T into the stock pipe.

I dropped by a turbo shop and the guy killed my buzz saying how this is way to small and how dieseldude is defying the law of physics blah blah blah. I'm going to have to shop around for another place to make my intake fittings.

Thanks for the OIL line tips. I'll see what I can do.
 
the smaller turbo only presents a problem if you were to run lots of boost , 10 + psi , for high rpm extended periods of time . In the 3b application it is probably fine because most of us are not driving like that . As a small point of thermal importance , which some people will argue , is the smaller turbo will produce a little more heat than a larger one and this will help improve the combustion process ( diesel applications only ). The smaller turbo will help off boost performance and low threshold boost performance for trail use .
