Been looking at rebuild options for awhile, but long story short blew a headgasket, and accelerated the time table.
Who is a trusted source for motors? Most of what I am seeing is from ATK or Powertrain Products.

Other options I should be considering?

I dont really want to replace a headgasket just to rebuild the whole motor shortly down the road.

I don't know if you're going to find a crate motor that you really know, for sure, was built with top quality internals.

Has your motor been rebuilt before? This may be an opportunity to build a really nice motor, if you can slow that accelerated time line a bit.

Good luck!

Sub'd ... deciding if rebuild or shortblock will be the course of action for the Lex. The s***ty side of me wants to do forged internals with slightly lower compression for a turbo, but the wallet side of me punches the s***ty side in the face

Unless you suspect the bottom end is damaged, other options would include just pulling the head and having it serviced. Lots of these motors show little to no significant wear to the bottom end even after 200k + miles.

I can assist.... If you want to go the OEM Toyota Aichi Steel route...

Of course, this route means you are an adult Lego addict and like putting s*** together.

The s***ty side needs to tell the wallet side to get bent. At least occasionally.

Don't lower compression if anything increase it. Really no need for forged internals unless you want to get crazy...

I know it uses a good bit of oil, so it needs rings anyway, thats what led me to the rebuild thoughts in the first place.
I dont mind a rebuild, I sort of like the idea of keeping this motor around, but dont have a ton of time to pour into it, nor can I really afford the downtime on the vehicle either.

No sh%t— @beno, you win with that picture.

It's done that before ... 600+whp 350Z on a load based Dyno Dynamics ... wife sooooooo not impressed, especially because I blew it up and then swapped it to an LS2. Cars are so easy compared to these trucks IMO, but once it was blown up I didn't worry about disassembling it and seeing how it all worked.

Those pics are pure sex Beno ... once I get the LC on the road I will make decisions about what happens to the Lex and you are my first call !!!

Around $5500.... Give or take.

That price vs. car payments always makes it easy ... even out in 6-8 months. Better question ... how much for Beno to assemble and make it PnP?

my truck burnt about a quart every 3 tanks.. the previous owner did the head gasket without changing the valve stem seals so now that ive done the job correctly im into the second tank now and oil level is dead on where it was when i filled it up

Just taking lessons learned from sports cars. Even 6 lbs of boost can blow stuff up or burn out rings/pistons. If I consider the turbo road I would need to see what people do for stand alone or piggyback engine management.

My LX450 used/uses 1-2 quarts of oil per 3K miles. Now that I have the radiator out to replace it and see I need to replace the PS cooler and see everything is covered in oil, I feel the right thing to do is evac the AC system (my HVAC buddy can do the capture) and then pull the engine and replace every hose, gasket, blah blah blah. Just need to get the LC inspected and on the road and can then make decisions.
